Capture the Flag revisited ;)

Don't ask why but I was in contact with Paul Edelstein last couple of years regarding his game and how he invented those tech in Wayout (1982) and Cature the Flag...

as I went into the source code I found some things to improve...

So PAL and esp. NTSC friends... can you compare if my improvments in making it render faster effect the game play "physics"? i don't think so but who knows...

btw. a neat trick... i always thought that game is in Antic D but that's not true... only first half of walls is antic D (2x2) and lower part is 2x1 Antic E which gives automaticly the impression of "higher walls while camera is lower and not in middle". Very nice and simply.

btw. if you ever wonder how such games work... Paul was one of the first among Rescue on fractalus guys using a so called collum based AND filler

The VIC20 Version looks faster because both windows get updated "interleaved" whil on the Atari both windows get updated the same frame.

Interesting looked in the source code, too. Never look at it in that way.

The Vic version does not apply some of the speed ups of the a8 version and does not use DLIs for the sky. They are color ram. I always thought in the past its rasters ;). Maybe because they flicker in videos?

The game itself here is 8k rom and base model means 5,5 kB ram.

And you see how that 2x2 / 2x1 changes the appeal as Vic version is 2x1 and looks like a generic maze game.

Hi there... been gone a while...  now having some more free time to get back to Atari hobbies...

Sorry if I repeat myself, but any source available for Way Out and Capture The Flag ?

I wanted to port the game to Maximite Computers but mine died a year or 2 ago...

I think I put 12v on a 3.3 volt max input line by error...  and YES I was using an opto coupler.... grrr.....

Maximite are now gone or rare as hell... so I will try to port the game to QB64 on pc...

Thanks for any help !
