'Super Smash Bros. Ultimate' Pre-Orders Are Doing Record-Breaking Numbers

Given both those franchises they're going to have some very amazing sales numbers for their season this go around and into their 4th quarter which ends at the end of March. They may still make it to their boast of X units of hardware sold if these numbers and presell numbers keep ticking up as it appears they will. I don't think it's entirely fair to say that everything else is so-so or a more expensive port either, kind of demeans the good stuff going on there.

that's just my take, you can like it but i'm starting to get sick of all the ports and the eye watering prices next to other platforms. price parity please!!

i know smash and pokemon will be big they just aren't for me (or indeed a lot of players) so we have nothing for switch. there are already a ton of people dumping the hw too with the rumour of a newer upgraded model next year.

You'll not get a huge argument out of me on price parity, but it would depend on the actual size of the game. It was revealed like a year ago that the 8GB Switch card costs the same out the door as mastering a ps4/xb1 blu ray disc. SO when you get a smaller game like the MegaMan Collection bundles, RIME, and some others wanting like $10 more or cutting out part of a game so you have to buy more larger expanded microSD cards it's pure bullcrap. Now if you get into the 16 and 32GB games I'm willing to eat $5-10 higher because I know the media is more expensive and I understand that. It's the cheapskate tactics that piss me off.

Smash is dead to me, the franchise refuses to be interesting anymore on the single player level in any hard meaningful way as it's now just some lameassed Mario Party brawler online as the head component and I want nothing to do with it. But that Pokemon game, just don't have the money or time for it right this moment or I'd get it as I loved Pokemon Yellow which it's based on.

I don't know of anyone selling their hardware like fools based on a very poor rumor of new hardware next year, but if they are, they deserve to eat the loss as that's entirely foolish gambling. Odds are Nintendo will do something, but to replace the guts with more advanced stuff after 2 years is a good way to piss off a lot of people and lose some customers. Odds are if that set of stories about new hardware is real, it's a hardware refresh like they did in Japan where it cost less by selling it as a portable. Or maybe they'll glue the joycons on the tablet body basically speaking and remove the Wii-like joycon function bits and peddle it as a handheld brick (like the non-folding 2DS) for a lower rate too, to appeal to fence sitters wanting to pay less or wanting nothing to do with the HDMI dock. I do think they have a hardware refresh in line, but I'd put it another 1-2yrs out, go with the TegraX2 setup which really would show some solid improvement.

I'm thinking more about what you said. Dark Souls Remastered on Switch came out with the others, and oddly looking at it from Digital Foundry's review the game oddly is the most FPS stable and enjoyable of the releases, even if it doesn't exceed 720/1080p as it doesn't deviate off 30fps, while the others go below that up to 60 like a yoyo. Starlink is a fairly impressive holiday recent release too. That added Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Torna title seems fairly popular and out in the last quarter as well. They've got some odd variety there, but yeah Smash and Pokemon shadow over all greatly.

  • 1 month later...

i just picked this up yesterday since I've already finished my son's copy of Odyssey and the 50cc cups on his Mario Kart cart. ;)

I will say that for a casual person that didn't play the game since the GameCube, there was pretty steep curve for me to get back into the game. I also had to lower the difficulty of the computer AI a notch to give myself a *fighting* chance. Trying to figure out the mechanics a little was frustrating at first for me.

That being said, holy crap the number of different stages, characters, and stuff to do in it. I'm not overly sure of replay once I unlock everything finally other than playing with my kiddos, but for now it's a pretty rock-solid game.
