Does anyone happen to have an extra, working 3.5" 720K Floppy Drive (hopefully pre-jumpered to respond as DSK2) that is surplus to their needs? My DSK2 has suddenly decided that it doesn't want to work consistently. If you have one for a reasonable price, please send me a private message - I'm sure we can come to some financial arrangements.

Is your drive belt driven? If it is it may just need a new belt. Used or slipping belts impact the speed and may give read/write error.

When it decides not to work properly, you can hear the heads "chattering". I would even settle for someone with more knowledge than I have about the subject to fix it.

I have 3 that I'm not using, but I need to keep at least one, as a spare.  None of them are equipped with a strapping option.  I always just use a PC twisted cable to make it DSK2.  Two are Mitsumi drives (one is light gray [made in China], the other is black [made Malaysia], and one is a Samsung (light gray [made in China]).  Take your pick if you're interested.  All working as I recall.  Not anxious to test, but I will depending on your offer.

Bill

Old drives stop working
- needs lubrication
- dirty heads
- misalignment
- electrical failure

You should look at the easy ones first.

exactly so try the first two first :)  my 5.25" drives started making noises and not working, a little break free on the rails and they shut right up and work perfectly now

Yes/freebie. Stop by if you're in the neighborhood.
