Lauren Tyler
I'll get things rolling with a score of 53,170. And while we're at it, I thought I'd share this comic I found recently.

Deteacher
299,200! On the upper levels, try to make good use of the rocks at the top of the screens. If you can get a lot of enemies rounded up, dig a long tunnel up to the top rocks and you can squash several of them for big points. EDIT: Here's an interesting trick I found by accident: You can crush enemies if they touch the top of the rock while you drop it. I made a quick video of this: Video_1543606113.wmv Edited December 1, 2018 by Deteacher

AtariWarlord
162,350. For this round I swore I wouldn't even post with less than six figures -- for me there's simply no excuse for less. It does take a little while to get back into its rhythm though.
Deteacher
377,900! With time and patience, I'm sure I can roll this one. Took me about 30-45 minutes to get this score, so we're probably looking at 2-2.5 hours to roll this one.

Leto27
Dig Dug, rollage. As a kid I played this game for hours, I just to hum the sound that Taizo Hori does as he moves, I just to swap games with my friends but this game along with River Raid, Mario Bros, H.E.R.O and Pac-Man ( I know that this version sucks but was the first ever video game I played ) was always in my collection. Lauren Tyler
OK, I'll bite... What is the secret to getting so many points? Is it something to do with the rocks or are you just playing for long periods of time?

AtariWarlord
OK, I'll bite... What is the secret to getting so many points? Is it something to do with the rocks or are you just playing for long periods of time? That's the question I have of most of the superplayers in the HSC for most games. Specific to Dig Dug, though, it's mainly length of time played and getting the fruits and vegetables as often as possible. These increase in value up to 2,000, I believe. One thing I like to do is drop a rock early in the game (preferably killing as many monsters as possible) and then drop a second rock once the last monster tries to escape. It's worth far more points to get the prize than to try to catch up and explode the monster. Also, if you use this method you won't have a whole bunch of them on you when you try to collect the prize. Otherwise, it helps to have a lot of experience with the arcade original. 2600 Dig Dug, while not a walk in the park, is still significantly easier than the coin-op. For one thing, it's far easier to explode two monsters in rapid succession. My highest score in arcade Dig Dug (played on MAME) is about 42,000 on medium difficulty. I may have done better than 242,100 on VCS Dig Dug at one point but I never recorded it or wrote it down.
AtariWarlord
Dig Dug, rollage. As a kid I played this game for hours, I just to hum the sound that Taizo Hori does as he moves, I just to swap games with my friends but this game along with River Raid, Mario Bros, H.E.R.O and Pac-Man ( I know that this version sucks but was the first ever video game I played ) was always in my collection. I love this port. It's like the anti-Pac-Man; it's clear Atari did everything they could to capture the gameplay and the charm of the arcade game. Graphically, the animation is superb -- no one expected the graphics to match up with the arcade version but Atari did a wonderful job in that area. I would say the 2600 port beats the two other home versions I've played (NES and 5200, the latter of which was a real disappointment considering how much more powerful than the VCS that system was).
