My Atari ST HW projects, designs

Recommended Posts

Just a little overview:IDE adapter in 1992 - worked well with all hard disks of that time.EPROM programmer for parallel port - still works well, and can Flash EPROMs too .HD floppy adapter what does not need modded TOS or 2.06 for propersteprate, because it is done in HW.MSTE internal adapter mod for accessing over 1GB + parity gen.CATA (that's only one which schematic is still not published) - fastestever adapter for ST, STE - 3.6 MB/sec read speed, over 2 MB/sec in write.ACSI-CF ... it needs only well designed PCB to work (as PCB version).Several people made it with wires and success rate is about 90% .Flash EPROM in ST(E), TOS switch, combined with Flash EPROM in ST(E)etc. Not to mention that I made driver SW, utility SW for all it myself.

Links to them can find at: http://atari.8bitchip.info/

One of the reasons to come out with it is that it may happen that CATA will finally go in production.

But there is important thing: because signal delays are much bigger in ST machines than in STE, CATA at cartridge port works well mostly on STE machines.

Very high speed is possible only with little work on motherboard of computer and leading out 2 wires. So, why not put it inside ST (or STE too) and not using slow Glue for address decoding (it controls cartridge port), but own, much faster chip(s) . In other words, it can be fastest IDE adapter for Atari ST(E) machines. Driver SW exists, and many people saw what it can do beside high speed - those video playbacks recorded from STE at YT :)

New HW design just started: very fast IDE hard disk port + USB port + LAN (network). All it in single device, what will keep price low. And driver SW will load in special way, what will make installation and usage very simple for users.

Dear Santa, I've been a very good boy this year. Please add me to the list for one of those when they're ready. I have a stack of pata IDE drives in the closet that could be used.
