H.E.R.O. sprite hack

I mean you have to take care that they animated and occupy in sprite frames same pixel space. I see you set more pixels etc. I just wanted to point out that hero is a pixel perfect game and when you change size than you might change the gameplay.

The butterfly middle frames leave more space for player etc.

Try the demo,

I just breeze through the 7 first levels, then I loose all my lives (like I always did), ok I was never an ace player ;)

At least for me the game play feels the same..

Ok, I just played a couple of times. I'm liking everything but the crab thing. That one just doesn't do it for me. The spider does look a bit more like a spider to me in motion and full colors, I like it, and the rest.

Roderick was pretty tough..

The color stripes gave me a hard time because their position is fixed.

My first animation sequence (which I liked more) had a hop in the stride, but when i put it in it looked ugly because the colors were all over the place :(

So I modified the sequence to be smoother, and finally I'm satisfied !

What are you thinking of the head ? moving or static ?

H.E.R.O. critter 3:

old butterfly ?!?!? vs new bat

Now the bat flies around

It is specifically this one that will cause gameplay issues. There are moments the ORIGINAL creature is smaller and will leave the player just that critical amount of space that might be needed.

Even when it is just hypothetical... the change will have consequences for gameplay. You say you always die from level 7. Does this mean you haven't test this theory on level 8 and higher?

Thats what I tried to explain.

Same with player sprite enhancements.

Maybe just the snake and roderik hacks... I am not sure yet.... we need xex postings.... then let's pick whats best and let him know. maybe follow with ideas for the ones folks don't appreciate.

The spider thread getting cut makes sense, it goes away. not a problem in my mind unless something else happens

Hey, back from mountain climbing..

On with the hack, below are the current critters gifs, I have some more ready but I currently love them !

The claw replaces the tentacle type thingy, I'm in the process to put them all together..

Enjoy or ask for your money back ;)

Love the new snake and Roderick. The other critters are much better now than your first shot at it, maybe given the lack of available frames for some of these they should move less between the frames to make it look smoother at the cost of big movement changes.

Thanks guys !

Yeah, 1,2 and 4 (crab, spider and snake) have only two frames of animation, but they animate much slower in game from what it appears in my gifs..

The sprites in the second set are not final, especially the bat (tried to do the 4 frames animation of the first set in only 2.. and it shows)

The snake is fine, it just pops in and out, the crab doesn't move much anyway (I preferred the first version you did of that one) so I guess the only thing jarring was the bat-like thing, its kinda twitchy in game too not just your gifs

I see your point and yes the bat is animated ultra fast in game and it's movement appears erratic..

So I smoothed the frames as better as I could, and in the process somehow transformed her into a vampire bat :P

check the comparison:

check the comparison:

In the first frame (on the left) I think better that the 1st (top) line you shoul keep the 2pixels over the head.

If was me I'll kept on that frame exactly like the original just adding the teeth.
