It is December 12, and just as Lucia is preparing herself for the Lucia celebration and parade in the next morning, she realizes she has forgotten to bake saffron buns to hand out to everyone!

Lucia decides to go off to the kingdom of Stalledrang to collect enough saffron buns for the parade. Can you help her without getting run over by the red gnome, and can you even do it fast enough to pick up some bonus points?

Exclusive release for a new freebie game: Santa Lucia by yours truly, developed in IntyBASIC.

Looks cool, will check it out. Is the plot based on a local tradition or story?

EDIT: it's celebrated by the Swedes all around the world. I've attended a Santa Lucia parade somewhere in Asia yesterday

The Lucia celebration in the early morning is very much real. The catching of saffron buns however is not part of the tradition.

Ah, thanks for the confirmation. By omission, I suppose that avoiding gnomes is part of the tradition; otherwise you would have pointed it out as well. Gotcha! ;)

Your people have the coolest traditions!

Normally you bake your buns or buy them from a bakery or a store. :) But it would've been an even more dull game about Lucia going late minute shopping at 10:30 PM the evening before the parade.

... Not if the shop had been overtaken by zombies!!! :o

it's a traditional Italian melody.

I agree, it's catchy, just like an Italo-disco song :)

Oh, yes, I know. I grew up with it. Santa Lucía. I remember the version from Enrico Caruso. I think my mom played it. :)

The rendition in the game is very good too. I just would like it had less silent parts, perhaps with a longer release on the lower melody, or a more syncopated or rapid melody, like on the last bar. You know, like Italo Disco. :)

I tried to make it a bit lika a bossanova or a rhumba, though I'm not entirely sure I got my musical styles correct. Initially it is 3/4, though I hear others have made various 4/4 versions over the years as well.

I think you got it fine, and I like the 3/4 arrangement. I just think that the notes are too short, making the melody have too many long silent parts. Perhaps some lingering notes may help a little.

Like I mentioned before, I like the rapid-fire notes on the last bar, and half-wish that there was more of that throughout the tune. :)
