ParanoidLittleMan
http://atari.8bitchip.info/TestMe/FIREBRIM.ZIP Lot of work was needed because really strange and overcomplicated floppy code and protection. It works now, there is option for unlimited lives, to save states, exit to Desktop. What is to do yet is to add code for second floppy - what usually needs to play until moment when it will ask inserting of floppy B (or 2) . I really have no time to play this days, so I ask to contribute. Test is it working on your config - Min 1MB RAM, decent hard disk driver. Or even in some emulator. Play until it asks for disk 2 (or close to it), then save gamestate - with sending (posting) it to me this will be finished sooner, and we can say that together we are stronger and feel better. It's for ya, folks. And is free.
TheNameOfTheGame
Thanks Peter! Will test out. Thanks again for all your work with hard drive adaptions together with sunnysimonboy's game booter, it makes running games on a Atari very nice!
TheNameOfTheGame
Ok, tried to test this in Steem 3.8.0. After selecting the first world Alfheim, there is a short intro where there is corruption at the bottom part of the screen. I put in a snapshot below. Then when I start the game, after the first screen with the giant, I immediately die after snap-scrolling to the next screen. There is nothing visible that is killing me. So I can't progress any further.
ParanoidLittleMan
I tried with Steem SSE 3.8.1 and 3.9.1 - which should be bugfixed versions. And it worked not at all. While in good ol' Steem 3.2 worked fine, except that health lose in second location. Went in further fixes - there were some protection remains, and added unlimited health option - what was lot of work, since needed to change 12 locations (record so far) - and I went thru only first 10 screens .... After fixes it worked with Steem SSE 3.8.1 , Steem 3.2 well. Will try on Mega STE later ... And it seems that there will be no later game adapting ... Really don't see the point after so 'much' people jumped on testing ... Spending 15-20 hours, and almost nobody cares . I just feel like idiot. But this one will be finished, because that's how I do things. Edited December 17, 2018 by ParanoidLittleMan

ParanoidLittleMan
Typical how it goes ... This thread is not about is there some other working release of this game. I know that for some D-Bug will always be the best. That's their problem. Fact is that someone who knows about D-Bug patch asked me to deal with. And this is not only testing of my game adaptation under work - oh dear God, I'm so ashamed that I could not do it all in 5 minutes ! I must be so lame with this 'business' . Testing how Atari people is willing to contribute. It's just that Atari ST game scene is dying - again. Anyway, I will convert some games to new system RIA (Raw Image Access) - that will work only on improved TOS versions by me. Better than via regular/usual hard disk drivers.

I'm sorry you're not getting a good response for testing, but your hard drive adapted games along with simonsunnyboy's boot loader and a good mass storage device make playing games on the original hardware very nice and convenient. I know you have worked on a couple of games I've requested in the past and have been very friendly and got them working. I for one appreciate your work greatly! To those who don't know about Peter's hard drive adapted games, he has eliminated the need to run from floppy with hundreds of great games. ParanoidLittleMan
Fire and Brimstone - Manual The Norse kingdom is threatened by the iniquitous Hel, goddess ofNiflheim, and purveyor of devilry, whose influence is permeating upwardsfrom her inferno through the other eight worlds of the Norsemen. She aimsto spred her godforsaken power untill she controls all. Thor is a man with a mission. A god with a goal. He has been selected byhis fellow gods to attempt the near impossible - to travel through theNorse worlds untill he reaches the source of Hel's wickedness. In thedepths of depravity, hemust extinquish the roaring satanic flames bydestroying Hel herself. The journey will be long and arduous. Hel has sent evil creatures to meetyou, delay you, and kill you. A variety of traps and pitfalls await you.The rewards of success are your liberty. The consequences of failure aredeath.NINE WORLDS OF THE NORSEMEN: The nine worlds of the Norsemen were divided into three levels, descending into the Earth, and supported by the roots of the giantash-tree, Yggdrasil. On the highest level were the worlds of the gods and goddesses, and it is from here, in Asgard that Thor starts his journey to the Land ofthe Dead. Asgard was the world of the warrior gods, and Thor was itsdefender. Although Thor was a feared warrior, he was also god of law andorder, entrusted with the defence of the Norsemen's homes and farms, and soit was he who became responsible for the overcoming of the forces of eviland the destruction of Hel. Alfheim and Vanaheim, also on the highest level of the Norse kingdom, were home to the Elves and fertility gods. These usually friendly placeshave already become infected with the evil plague of creatures released byHel in her attempt to corrupt the kingdom, threating the helpfulLight-Elves of Alfheim and the Vanir, or fertility gods, of Vanaheim withwhom Thor's people are now at peace. Below Asgard was the Earth, or Midgard, the world of humans and giants. The giants are, with very few exceptions, hostile to Thor and the gods.Cheating and fooling Thor are their favourite pastimes, resorting quicklyto physical violence. Nidavellir, also on the second level, was an area of caves and holesbelonging to the Dwarfs. Greedy, cunning, and often downright evil, theDwarfs hoarded gold and jewels in their caves. Nearby was Svartalfheim, where the troublesome Dark-Elves lived. On the lowest level was Muspell, a world of raging fires present sincebefore the world was created, and Niflheim, the Land of the Dead, a gloomyplace of ice, snow and eternal darkness. It is the home of Hel, thecontroller of the monsters Thor will meet, and the source of all evil inthe kingdom.GETTING STARTED: Thor starts his adventure by leaving Asgard, the home of the gods, totravel through four worlds in his search for Hel. Once he is successful inkilling Hel, he must return back to Asgard safely. His journey will be hampered by a variety of nasty creatures, sent toblock his path by Hel. Thor has a variety of weapons available to him - buthis greatest one is your cunning. It's up to you to guide him through thetraps set by Hel, blasting bats, whacking wizards, and gobbling goblins. To start the game press the fire button. The loading screen will bereplaced by the credits screen. Pressing the fire button again will startthe action. If you have played "FIRE AND BRIMSTONE" before and haveun-write protected your disk, the game will start at the beginning of thelast level you reached. Alternatively, press the space bar on the keyboardwhen the credits screen is displayed, and you will be able to play anylevel you have previously played.CONTROLLING THORJOYSTICK LEFT---------------------WALK TO LEFTJOYSTICK RIGHT--------------------WALK TO RIGHTJOYSTICK UP-----------------------JUMPJOYSTICK DOWN---------------------CROUCHFIRE------------------------------FIRE WEAPONTHORS WEAPONS:Thor has two weapons available to him at the start of the game. Fireballand mace.As he travels other weapons will become available to him.A magic ice-ball and Thor's hammer, Mjollner. These alternate weapons may be picked up whenever you see them, but Thorcan only carry two at once. When he picks up a third he must exchange itfor a weapon he is already carrying. Each has it's own characteristics insome situations, and each flies through the air on it's own trajectory. The weapon currently in use is indicated by the arrow at the bottom ofthe screen. You may toggle between the weapons by pressing the space bar orany "letter key".HEL'S CREATURES AND TRAPS: The creatures which Hel has sent to meet you are various. All are deadlyand any contact with them will quickly reduce Thor's energy. If it isreduced to zero he dies. Many will attack Thor on sight; others will wait quietly for him toapproach, hoping to catch him off guard. Some are heavily armed, some willtry to trick you by speed of movement. It's usually best to blast thembefore they can attack. Thor's journey is also impeded by trips and traps set by Hel. Some arestatic, needing to be jumped, avoided or solved. Some may spring up at youbefore you can see them. At the end of each of the worlds Thor must pass through, Hel has put oneof her deadliest traps. Savaging triffids, mutant gravestones,fire-spitting statues and fire-breathing dragons all await him. If hesucceeds in reaching Niflheim, the most cunning trap of all, personallyguarded by Hel awaits.THORS MAGIC POTIONS: The gods have helped pave Thor's way by leaving magic potions at variouspoints along the way. They can be collected and saved for use at a laterdate. Only two can be held at any one time. If Thor attempts to collect athird, one of the potions he is holding will be cast immediatley. Hel sees Thor's attack as a challange, which she feels sure she will win.But she wants a stiff test and is prepared to reward Thor for his skill. Ifhe manages to kill certain creatures, he will be rewarded by a potion fromHel.BLUE-----------builds a magic bridge over certain obtaclesRED------------fires lightning bolt; kills or damages all enemies on screenGOLD-----------gives Thor extra high jumping abiltyWHITE----------lights up dark roomsThe potions currently in Thor's possession are shown at the bottom-right ofthe screen. Potions are cast by pressing one of the cursor keys for theleft potion, or one of the keys on the numeric pad for the right potion.THOR'S HEALTH: Thor has four lives in which to complete his mission. For each life hisstate of health is shown numerically with a maximum value of 99, andgraphically by the health bar. When Thor is hit, his state of healthworsens; the numeric display decreases in value and the health bar shrinks. The effect of a hit on Thor's health depends on the offending object.Enemy creatures, their missiles and contact with various items havedifferent effects.THORS CLUES: Alfheim: Most creatures are fair game. Some are more rewarding than others. All stone structures should be investigated very carefully, as some have something worth finding. On a magic bridge shoot over the moon for a novel response. Some parts which do not appear accesssible at first can be reached using magic. Vanahein: Height can help to defeat the Grim reaper. Don't hang around once the skull is on the move. Certain towers can be entered by unlikely means. These lead to adventure elsewhere. The gravestones are save once on the ground, but beware their weight when in the air. On your return journey, a statue blocks your path. You can triumph over this statue with the help of eight ghosts. Nidavellir: Head hunting statues can bring magical rewards. If a problem seems unsolvable, a solution may be found later than youthink. The quicker you get past the water droplets the better. If things getto wet go back and try again when things have dried out. The juggling demons require critical timing in order to survivethe deadly balls. At the end of the world find a suitable position for ducking anddiving, and choose the right weapon for reaching the weak spot. Muspell: A prize awaits you overhead, allowing you a bridge over initialproblems. You cannot fight fire with fire. Before entering Niflheim, you will need a weapon aganist the icey wasteand a couple of magic potions to allow you to solve Hel's puzzles. ParanoidLittleMan
Well, I think that we have now answer on almost everything. I'm sorry Atari people that I have sub-standard 1200 'patches' - from which 1300 is already 'patched' . I'm sorry for 'crying' all time how low things gone low. No. all is nice, moderators are objective, all users are objective - because we are now in informatic era ! Let's all be real 'mans' and instead doing some 'sub-standard' activities just jump in other people's threads and talk about stolen bytes, using C sources of OS A for modding OS B in asm, writing how P-s floppy utility can destroy and wipe whole hard disk partitions, people's homes and even whole continents ! What 'informatic era' means ? 'Inform' people how person C is untermansch, repeat it again enough times, and yes, that will become 'valid' information. Where humanity goes actually ?

Yes, testing it by multiple people is what will make it 'sub-standard' . I do it for people, and not for 'petting' . If people can not realize that this can't be all done by single man, then there will be no more man at all doing it. And please don't call my work 'sub-standard game patches' - word 'patch' hurts. I don't patch, I adapt. Why this is sub ? Because works with 1 MB RAM, while what that so great crew created needs min 2 MB RAM. Yes, 1 is sub in compare to 2 ! ParanoidLittleMan
Why so angry ? Because you are not only *hole, but blind. My car is not yet finished, there are only 2 wheels on it, and yet, you coming with: "my 10 years old car runs faster" . So desparately want attention in forum section you abandoned years ago ? Try doing something useful for people called Atari ST users. There are us who know to read, and we know why you left this 'scene' . Now go and ask to ban me. because I said truth. +CyranoJ
Why would I want you banned? Chill out. If you want to do something for 'atari st users' maybe do something that hasn't been done already a decade ago and give them something new instead of getting angry and bent out of shape on a forum. Out of your last 5 threads, I think 5 of them have been insulting people.
ParanoidLittleMan
OK, my last reply here to C.J. : "Why doing something what is done already ?" . Why not ? Is there some rule that if someone did some game 'patch', some system helping it then nobody other should not do other version, by his ideas ? Stupidest what I did read about was something like (and it was actually at EAB forum) "Why doing another game patch when D-Bug did it best" . Sure, they did it 'best' because it was best among all 1 competitors then Or that wise man meant that nobody can do it better, ever. Well, I know what I talking about - that was called 'cult of person' in Tito era, Chauchescu, some even 'greater' dictators in Asia. It was on TV, some communist said for Tito: "greatest man who lived, lives and who ever will live in this country' (which was considered as eternal, and we know how it finished in 1991-92, then 1999) . Sorry to bring 'off topic' political history here. But we know that online human behavior is basically same as in 'offline' World. Sorry if I insulted some people. That's what my mom did when said: 'you were bad child' . Grow up folks.
