800xl without 64k?

I'm checking out some Homebrew games I found on Atarimania, and one of them says I don't have 64k of memory. But Atari Museum states the 800xl did have 64k. What am I missing?

Maybe "extended" is the key word here? Or it requires a 130XE

As it mentions the 130XE in brackets you most probably need an extra 64K (which is not too hard to install these days).

Notice it says "64KB of extended memory".

 

The 800XL only has 64KB of base memory, and the 130XE has 64KB base RAM + 64KB extended RAM for 128KB total.

Hi, the error message says that 'extended' memory is needed. The 800XL by default has main memory and no extended ram.

The notice clearly states 64K of extended memory is needed, the 800XL has only the base 64K of memory. As an example it notes the 130XE for the requirement to be met. Almost any machine upgraded to 128K or more will work. Some programs will need separate ANTIC access enabled but almost anything you choose with ANTIC following should work..

Poor choice of message from the game IMO. On the XL/XE, any RAM > 64K will be 128K minimum and be considered "extended".
