Omega-TI
Sometimes it's fun to 'push the envelope' and make hardware do things it was never meant to do. I mean this is a hobby right, so being practical is not a prerequisite. I got to thinking, the 5200 is basically a modified Atari 400 right? Would it be possible to stick BASIC or an Atari OS on the AtariMax cartridge and then interface a Raspberry Pi to the 5200 acting as a keyboard interface, storage device, modem etc.? It would definitely make the 5200 very popular if it could get out of 'dead end status'. -- Just thinking through my finger tips...
CPUWIZ
Why? Can't you just buy a 800XL or something? I am serious, a lot of this stuff is not just gluing shit together. I have hundreds and hundreds of hours of programming PC/MAC or WiFi code/PIC assembly/7800 assembly, for the MCP devkit now. Guess how many people would buy that? Me, because I do shit for myself first. So you would need to find someone who is willing to spend a lot of time and money, designing and programming something, that may never land in more than 5 peoples hands. CPUWIZ
Yeah, I do that on my own, if I were to be inclined. Adding a keyboard is actually not that hard, I think, probably would have to be a modern one though.
+frankodragon
At first I thought it was 'Mallory' from Family Ties. Until I read the date.
zylon
I bought an XEGS and spare parts from B&C and that does the trick for me. Besides, it's cute damn it, lol. Even resurrected a few "junkers" since. I can play my games the 5200 way, or semi-modern controls style and able to add a disk drive. Win-Win. That aside, I still like seeing neat stuff that never was made, so go for it.
