Thanks for all the feedback, guys. I know that there are more powerful options for cheap, but I got this thin client from a friend as a gift, and I am always fascinated with how far older/cheaper PC's can be pushed.

Once I get my male to female SATA cable to utilize a 2.5" HDD, I will start my build, then let you all know how it works out!

Stella is optimised for 64-bit and the author is always threatening to drop 32-bit support. Otherwise maybe 32-bit is okay but 64-bit seems more future proof. Myself, I wouldn't bother with retroarch, I'd just install and configure the emulators directly but that's personal preference. Maybe a 4GB ram upgrade to 6GB is cost effective, 4GB total should be okay. Emulation is mostly cpu intensive.

But can I somehow use many different stand alone emus with Emulationstation? I really love it's GUI and skins.

That's how it, and most other front-ends, are designed. As long as you can launch the emulator and specified rom file by command line it should work. You can have as many individual emulators as you like. This page gives you an idea how it works.

So far so good with installing Windows x64. And Snappy Driver was a big help with installing all the drivers.
