Jack Palevich did Dandy, the forerunner of Gauntlet and other such games.

Frogger on the 8-bit Ataris was really well done. Although there were a few versions, the one by Parker Brothers stands out in my mind.

M.U.L.E., THE top rated game at Atarimania.

Dandy was a favorite of mine back in the day. Much fun was had with that game and my friends.

Wow.... yesterday I watched Carol Shawns icon award on YouTube and I watched old 80s Canadian computer tv show with you explaining stuff (it was the show about games) and in background you were demonstrating eastern front on an Atari 800. Then I found in the attic my 2600 and found as well German edition of De Re Atari... :)

By the way, I worked with Carol and, as the video says, she was definitely a code wizard, although Ed Logg was problem the ultimate in code wizardry. The video emphasizes that Carol was one of the first women in the business, but the funny thing is that nobody saw anything special or odd about women in the business. That group was a pure meritocracy; if you knew your stuff, you were respected, and Carol definitely knew her stuff. I never once saw anything like sexism or sexual harassment in the Engineering group at Atari. There may have been plenty of it in other departments, but I can't recall ever hearing or seeing anything worthy of mentioning in that regard. Carol mentions one anecdote involving Ray Kassar, but he was a bit of a jerk anyway. Perhaps she could provide us with an anecdote about sexism in Engineering, but I doubt that there was much. I certainly never heard anything like that in conversations.

Who was that handsome young man? ;-)

Awesome that you are here man! Been an Atari user since 82 (7 years old). Read your columns BITD, didn't understand shit. But now, I have been making my living coding since 2007. I go back and see what you did, and what a gift. It was such amazing insider information in a WAY pre-internet period. All makes sense to me now. I am finally taking the plunge into 100% 6502 coded project for my Atari, a short 37 years after I got my first one :)

I dug around and found a folder full of old Atari stuff. I was going to upload it but then I discovered that I have apparently already done so:

Wow! Thanks for sharing this Chris, much appreciated and im sure we'll have fun going through this trove of ATR's

Western Front 1944, a boot-able ATARI program from the "Western Front 1944.atr" disk image in the "Atari Stuff.zip" file above. The assembly source code is on the "Western Front Backup.atr" disk image.

Fighting it out in England, France, and the low Countries.

Chris --

Glad to see you posted the zip of all of the diskettes I recovered for you back in 2013... sorry I didn't post them up years ago, kinda got side tracked battling my heart from trying to fall apart every other month, lucky I got the best of it and I'm back to full health and very happy to see all those disk images finally being tried out by everyone here on AA :-)
