Missing Master System game developers

Recommended Posts

I am currently working on a project to list all the Sega Master system games and the people who created them.

I am having trouble finding the developers for the following games and was hoping someone could help me out.

I have cross referenced my information with the leading SMS sites and they have either conflicting information or suspect someone else did it.

Proof would be awesome if you have it otherwise just your reason why would be great!

Great Basketball

Klax

Montazumas Revenge

Ms Pacman

PGA Tour Golf

The Pro Yakyuu - Pennant Race

Sega World Tournament Golf

Streets of Rage

Submarine Attack

Ultima IV

Wonder Boy in Monster World

World Games

Klax was developed by Atari Games and published through their Tengen front. The same for also Ms Pac Man too.

Westone is the maker of the Wonderboy games, and Sega would publish them.

I'm confused why you're confused on a few of them. The Great series were in house made by Sega for their sports games. Streets of Rage is also an internally made game so they are the developer and publisher on all those titles.

Pro Yakyuu, that is a Namco game, it got the Famista title series in Japan on the Famicom from NIntendo. Famista/Pro Yakyuu is all 100% Namco made and published.

Montezumas Revenge was published by Parker Bros when they used to do games, and Utopia Software handled development of it for them.

A mix of all this is my own knowledge, and a few gaps were picked up using the sega retro website.

If you use these links for US and EU market games you can get your answers:

I'm under the impression that the EU Tengen SMS games, including Ms. Pac-Man and Klax, were published by Domark (their name is on the back of the box, afaik) and programmed by EU developers.

Pro Yakyuu Pennant Race is the JP counterpart of Great Baseball, not a Namco game. The batting view is the same, though the fielding perspective is different. Yakyuu is the Japanese word for baseball. Pro Yakyuu is not something trademarked by namco. It's used in games from other companies too. On other systems and AC, the namco baseball games are called World Stadium, though there's a Megadrive baseball game named Yuukai Douchiki (sp?) which is a basball spinoff on Youkai Douchiki (sp?).

The toned down SMS port of Wonderboy in Monster World was not programmed by Westone. The only SMS Wonder Boy game they worked on is Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap.

I was under the impression that the only the Atari 800 disk version of Montezuma's Revenge was programmed by Utopia. Wikipedia claims thta Microsmiths did the port, but I take wikipedia with a grain of salt.

edit: The back of Klax says it was published by Tengen with sales and marketing handled by Domark.
