VAST TI-99/4A Computer Club - Skype & Webcams

Omega-TI

Recommended Posts

When I purchased my Dell XPS 8930 it did not come with a Webcam that could be used to 'virtually attend' a VAST computer group meeting. One of these days, I'll get to take part, but since there are so many webcams available

<< EXAMPLES HERE >> I'd like to know what you guys are using and recommend.

<< THIS ONE >> is really cheap and currently has my interest, but I'm open to better suggestions.

On the higher end, the << Logitech C922x >> looks pretty cool as well.

We are on our third Logitech webcam- HD720p - they just fail, within the "guarantee" period. First time Logitech sent a replacement. Then they refused point blank to honour their "guarantee" unless we installed Windows 10 and Logitech test software - which was not a condition of the original sale or in their "guarantee".

If they work for a while, fine, if they fail, don't look to Logitech. A cheap generic is likely to do better. We will not be buying any more equipment with the Logitech name on it- zero customer service.

I can't believe it. I've been nothing but totally satisfied with all Logitech devices. And believe me, I've got a lot. I'll buy Logitech almost without hesitation, but I do indeed look at other manufacturers too.

;)

I've had nothing but good luck with Logitech, in fact the only problem I've ever had with them is the feeling of guilt when I junked an item for being 'obsolete' when it's still working. For instance, IIRC, the webcam in my old computer space 20 years ago was also a Logitech. It still worked, but became obsolete in resolution, quality and eventually compatibility with newer equipment.

I use this for most all of my videos against a green screen/talking to the camera. I dropped the resolution down in past videos because I've noticed some slippage in frame rate when used with OBS Studio on my old laptop. I haven't adjusted it since I got my new laptop, I do need to tweak it a bit. However, the quality is pretty darn good when used with USB 3.0 ports (just played around with it):

Logitech 1080p Pro Stream Webcam for HD Video Streaming and Recording at 1080p 30FPS

Not the cheapest webcam, but the only one I've used for my virtual studio since about March of last year. The reviews are pretty good 4.5 stars.

Thats a nice looking console. V2.2 as well.

It will be dismantled for the sole purpose of salvaging the power switch. Then the board will be removed for examination of the v2.2 differences.

The beige plastic case which has yellowed quite noticeably will likely be destroyed.

Oh..don't destroy the case, I'll pay for shipping to dispose of it for you. ;)

The beige case will be spared for retronbriting.

Maybe I’ll do a short video on what I’ve learned from 8-bit guy on the topic.

Afterwards I’ll paint it and then probably destroy it.
