JamesH
Have a joystick adapter and two modern Atari joysticks from a Flashback. Powered up my TI today and the up direction does not work, tried both sticks on both ports. Any tips on testing the adapter and the console? Any common cap or resistor failure that I can check for? Thanks.
HOME AUTOMATION
you probably already know about the ALPHA LOCK key thing?
jrhodes
Dirty joystick port? And yes, make sure the alpha-lock is off (raised) when using a joystick.
twoodland
Have you eliminated a problem with the joystick itself? Do you have the Atari Flashback console to test the joystick? Sometimes the problem can be with the contacts inside the joystick: Atari Flashback 2 Joystick Atari CX40 Joystick
JamesH
you probably already know about the ALPHA LOCK key thing? No, I didn't. And, yes, the caps lock was on. HAHA. Edited March 9, 2019 by JamesH
+Ksarul
We all make that mistake at least once. . .
+FarmerPotato
No, I didn't. And, yes, the caps lock was on. HAHA. Would you like to modify your console? It's beginner level soldering. Read about fixing the alpha lock problem once and for all by adding a diode (follow link on that thread to MainByte article).

Maybe once I get my electronics bench outfitted and pickup an untested console for modification. Otherwise I want to keep my console as original as possible. Omega-TI
Interesting. Maybe once I get my electronics bench outfitted and pickup an untested console for modification. Otherwise I want to keep my console as original as possible. It's a nice easy mod and doesn't even require removal of the keyboard, which now days can be problematic because those ribbon cables have been known to self-destruct from becoming so brittle over the decades. It's a nice thing we have Arcadeshopper in our ranks, as he's started carrying replacement cables for unfortunate users.
apersson850
The alpha lock diode thing was the first modification I did to my console. Over time, more would come...
