Magic Knight
HI I (think) i managed to warp a Commando cart the other day, - i got one second hand and had a look at the pokey chip, however when i plopped it back in all i got is a white screen. (should have tested it before opening the sucker..) I have a 2600 pole position cart also that does this. Questions are - what goes zap when its pushed the wrong way round? and is it fixable....?? +-^CrossBow^-
I've pushed carts in the wrong way when they were out of the case many times. Haven't killed one yet doing this though I supposed it is possible.
Magic Knight
its strange as ive done this before also without ill effect. Ill see if its unique to the console or knackered in general.
+save2600
Warped? Pushed the wrong way around? You mean you inserted it upside down or chipside down? Seems to me you'd fry the chip doing so...
AtariBrian
Did you put the pcb in upside down ?
Magic Knight
Did you put the pcb in upside down ? Think it was placed 180- degrees, thus zapping something. it didnt have the shell on at the time
AtariBrian
Ok I just wanted to make sure you tried inserting the pcb both ways into the console . Do you have De oxit ?
Magic Knight
No but I have rubbing alchohol. I'm guessing oxidisation has may be occurred and cleaning the contacts is the first step? Edited March 11, 2019 by Magic Knight
AtariBrian
No but I have rubbing alchohol. I'm guessing oxidisation has may be occurred and cleaning the contacts is the first step? At times I have had success with De oxit . After trying with rubbing alcohol the games still didn't work so I tried De oxit and they finally worked . Normally though rubbing alcohol does the job .
Magic Knight
Ill give it a shot. Might be my console also. I've got 2 pal 7800s so I'll compare the two.
Shawn
Think it was placed 180- degrees, thus zapping something. it didnt have the shell on at the time Ya if you put the cartridge pcb in backwards that could have ill effects for sure. First thing you can check is the voltage regulator. If you get lucky you might have just popped that only. Worst case you could have fried the POKEY in that cart as well as they are not able to take much misuse without breaking. I say that from personal experience frying pokey chips on 5200 machines.
Magic Knight
Thanks, no harm in getting one in to try (regulator). I got the 2600 pole position to work after cleaning contacts with IPA but commando still white screen.
