Did see another actually price at 800.00 on the market place.

Went there because my daughter said its a good place for bargains :) Obviously on the sort of er stuff she buys only :)

Facebook ads require a price, so people go around this by adding various numbers. For instance, I've seen $1,234,567 listed as the asking price numerous times. He probably should make it a little more ridiculous, though, than $1234 to avoid confusion.

Facebook...Sphock...Gumtree...Ebay

this is common practice putting "random prices" just because a price is required - and the seller has no idea what to charge.

nothing to see here.

Since the seller asks 'What's it worth?', I suspect the list price (notice how it comprises the digits 1, 2, 3 and 4?) is completely arbitrary and not the actual asking price.

Yes, I thought I had initially noted it was a place holder price and that that there was another priced at 800.00 as well.....I don't remember editing it back?

I must be losing it, I certainly don't remember posting it twice with different text...Some internet mumbo jumbo going on...

But yes, the initial post said I knew it was a place holder, not a clever one as its hardly giving the right "buy me now" vibe but I knew it was not a real price and that's why I mentioned the 800.00 thing..

Bah, tis done..If I did the double thread then apologies to all..

B ut there is this ATARI computer to buy :) (Yes I messaged him and he can't be bothered to change it)

Thanks Serena :)

Whether this was a ridiculously listed price or not, XL prices on eBay have certainly increased a lot in the last year. Maybe by 25% for loose units and even greater for boxed ones. I watch auctions a lot, even though I really don't have much intention of actually bidding on them, and I rarely see decent conddition loose 800XLs go for under $100. By comparison, I purchased a minty fresh boxed 800XL for $93 shipped just over a year ago (granted, that was a pretty unexpectedly good deal). I don't know why the sudden upsurge has happened but it definitely has.

As others have said, just a placeholder. See it all the time in FB listings, especially when they're trying to sell multiple items in one listing.

In my experience, FB isn't ebay. Although you do get the odd Charlie on there, like the £1300 i7 "Gaming PC" the other day with an NVIDIA GT1030.
