"Deluxe" vs "Gold" vs "Regular"?

Recommended Posts

I see Amazon has three different versions of the Flashback 9: "Regular", "Gold", and "Deluxe".

Is there a significant difference between the three?

Seems like the "Regular" version may carry the most value assuming you can add your own titles through a SD card.

The hardware and firmware is all the same except :

The Gold has the wireless joysticks while other two have hardwired joysticks

The Gold has some extra games which really don't matter at all as all three have SD card so can add any missing games.

The Deluxe just includes an SD card and HDMI cable which are missing with the other two

In my opinion the Deluxe is best deal (https://www.samsclub.com/sams/atari-flashback-hdmi-deluxe-game-console/prod22620015.ip) unless you really want the wireless joysticks.

Others have stated the wireless joysticks work really well.. much better than past wireless joysticks. I personally was not interested in finding if that was the case.

Also note there is cheaper version that does NOT have HDMI but only composite. I highly recommend before you purchase please verify HDMI output is listed or even better verify HDMI is shown in one of the icons on the bottom of the box art.

If you go for the Gold, you get wireless joysticks and the option to use wired if you have them. I was unsure about the wireless joysticks because I've heard horror stories about the original "line of sight" joysticks. Well I took a gamble and glad I did! These wireless joysticks are the best! I can now sit on my couch while playing any game that requires joysticks. It really is a treat. I can also go back to using my Tac-2 joysticks by plugging them into the front. Either way it's a win-win.

Very cool. You still need batteries for those joysticks so that is a bummer. Where the hell is wireless power? We should have had wireless power years ago and it should be dirt cheap by now that I could buy a less than $50 Atari Flashback. Oh well the grumpy old man in me wants wireless power or wired joystick...NO batteries!

I've had mine since December and have not needed to change the batteries. They will last as long as you remember to turn the power off on each joystick. :)
