patjomki
Nice. Someone connected standard pc gear to an atari 800XL (and other ancient computers). Shoot me with a light gun if old.
+slx
Never seen before but apart from paddle games I wouldn't know why I'd want to use an analog PC joystick to play games built for digital sticks. But then, if it can be done, it probably must be done. Maybe I just never got over my inability to convert my Odyssey 2 joysticks to Atari.
Justin Payne
PC gamepads but then you have all of those other buttons you can't use. I could see new games being adapter to read the analog input and simulate it though the paddles but it's one of those things that you'd have to invest in and I doubt most would do unless there were several titles that took advantage of it. Still, I like the concept. Edited April 10, 2019 by Justin Payne
_The Doctor__
holy chit the lag of controls plus lag of flat panel assures death.... nice ideas but really need much better response....
Rybags
Cool, but the gameport is almost as obsolete as our old gear (that said though, I've still got some of that type of controller around).
ricortes
Form follows function. I hacked a PC joystick to work with my Atari. The hack was maybe in ANALOG or ANTIC, just change some capacitors to get it to work. Only games I could remember it working better with was Missile Command but it was still inferior to a track ball. For stuff like a drawing program it just had to much jitter in the paddles to work well. This is not to say analog joysticks couldn't work well, just that our games were mostly based on a digital joystick. Some stuff like maybe a driving game or flight simulator could work really well with maybe an Android phone tilt sensors sending out Bluetooth info if the games were designed to be used with it. ChildOfCv
Even carbon film potentiometers developed dead spots that caused jitter. That was one thing I hated about PC joysticks... pushing in one direction and running off in the opposite direction. For the "serious gamers" who bought the expensive Thrustmaster joysticks, some people developed kits to replace the gimbals to remove play, and also replaced the pots with Hall effect sensors. patjomki
Well, (old) PC joysticks are not that impressive but controlling driving games (1:43 min) with a steering wheel looks promising.
TGB1718
I programmed an Arduino with a USB HAT to connect a USB gamepad to my 130XE, all my old joysticks are dead works fine
