Sofia and Lode Runner issues?

So I have an S-Drive Max, Sofia and Ultimate1MB in one of my 800XLs. Decided to play some Lode Runner today. Title screen plays fune, but after the game starts, the screen starts going on and off. Does not do it on the title screen, just the ameplay. Other games play fine. Also noticed some games that use artifacting are in black and white, while others seem to be OK. Pinball Construction Set is one that comes to mind that is black and white. Is this normal?

Artifacting in the 320x192 modes is only present in the NTSC composite output. S-Video & RGB from Sophia I presume will be similar, and show it in monochrome only. (Unless I am mistaken, and sophia has some mode to emulate artifacting?)

Anyhow, I'm pretty sure lode runner relies on artifacting for colour, since it was a direct port from the Apple II. Same with games like Drol, Choplifter, AE, David's Midnight Magic, (the original, not the one with the graphics 15 hack)

Some examples:

Lode Runner with no artifacting. This is what you will see with an S-Video connection, and I suspect Sophia as well.

Lode runner with artifacting. Blends the thin vertical lines to color on a composite or RF output.

PAL has very subtle artifacting, but is still primarily monochrome stripes...

Not sure about the 'screen going on and off' - does sophia let you see the original video output simultaneously to compare?

Which Sofia do you have - RGB or DVI?
