fred
Ran across a Sega Neptune for sale. Wasnt it a prototype? Is this just a Genesis mocked up to look like a Neptune? https://articulo.mercadolibre.com.mx/MLM-622729874-sega-neptune-_JM

derFunkenstein
I very much doubt it. To me that very clearly looks like a 32X motherboard and a Genesis 2, where the Genesis 2's audio and video is internally rerouted to the AV In on the 32X, and the 32X's output is internally routed to the mini DIN on the back. And then some sort of sculpted lid on top. It even splits the power adapter input between the two boards right at the AC jack. A clever mod that's been documented before, and it probably works, but I doubt it's legit. edit: photo of the bottom is fuzzy, but it even says "Sega Mega Drive 2". What a f***ing scam artist. As if the gobs of hot glue weren't already a huge red warning symbol. edit again: in the photo that shows the whole setup, you can see PC BD MD2 VA1 PAL - why would they be using such an early-rev Mega Drive for a prototype? dj898
as far as I know there never was a working Neptune prototype in wild. from what I remember the one supposedly found was design mockup with no internals just like Sega Saturn prototype design mockups.
