A New Jaguar Work In Progress from Wave 1 Games

post-45896-0-92631500-1558942840_thumb.png

This is the first public look at our new project SHARK BYTE for the Atari Jaguar console. This video showcases the graphics and the soundtrack. With this project I have achieved true transparency on the Jaguar hardware, as you can see in many of the special effects shown. This video was recorded from REAL Jaguar hardware utilizing a capture device. This video does not indicate the final gameplay as that is far from ready it is ONLY showcasing the graphics and the soundtrack which we have put a lot of effort into.

I would ask how you achieved that transparency, but it appears you might have discovered it by reading the RAPTOR and/or HW Reference Manuals which explain how to use CRY mode (Can't tell, colours are a bit crap, but then that is a hallmark of CRY mode masking) + the TRANS object flag to achieve transparency.

I really don't have an issue with you (or anyone, in fact) using RAPTOR or rB+... If I did, it wouldn't have been released, but when you start making claims about how you discovered something that the API gives to you, while repeatedly in public making claims that there are lots of bugs and problems in RAPTOR or rB+ to deflect your lack of quality control then it becomes a bit over the top. There are now many, many examples of rB+ / API titles out there. It's only yours that are full of bugs. Conclude your own Venn Diagram.

Not bad for a re-skin of Fast Food with the direction reversed, though. Good luck! I hope you actually pull your big boy pants up, stop acting like a petulant child and produce something worth playing this time. We can all dream, right?

That IS all that it is for now, but I have something much better in mind for the gameplay here. No sense in making the same game over and over.

I will post another update once the ACTUAL gameplay starts to take shape

I do like the underwater look and I won't come at you with any detailed comments as I, myself, don't know a thing or two about game creation or using RB+. What I will do though is wish you the best in creating something you are happy with and, in terms of selling a product, the Jaguar community in general is happy with.

It could be promising, but I'd recommend you clean up the graphics. The transition between the background and the sprite that you're using for the shark looks really rough.

Also, I'd recommend you put in a few more things than some random humans, maybe add in some other fish. Perhaps a harpoon shooting down from above the water (with a ship's hull). Humans are the only natural predators to sharks.

I'd also suggest you do something with the fish as it moves around... perhaps some alternating sprites. Like for example, as you move forward, have the fin move, or as you go up and down, have the pectoral fins move. As it is right now, it's basically a copy of your Foot Fight game, with different graphics.

EDIT: I was going to hold back, but I'm not sure that I should. The last and only game I bought from you Frogger 64 or whatever it's called, I can't get past the first level because the game is so buggy and jacked up that the entire screen gets crazy and then I somehow end up back to the main screen while the game still plays underneath it. The box it came in was printed in an inkjet printer and came apart when I took it out of the box. Why even bother to make a box at all? When I told you, very politely, that the game was basically unplayable... you said you'd send me a replacement, and that I could either keep or send back the old one when I got around to it after receiving the new one. A new one never came. I'd highly recommend you fix your other games before you push more shit onto the market. I don't know why you'd waste all that time and effort making the games you did, only to do them to 80% completion, and not do the other 20%?

When I was a little kid, I always wondered why someone didn't pay a ton of advertising to make a movie, or a video game that convinced everyone it was going to be awesome, to only then shovel shit when people came to see the movie or the game. I always wondered what fool would end up falling for those tactics and end up buying one of those games ... I never thought I'd be one of those fools.

None of my boxes are printed using an inkjet printer. They are all printed on glossy 11X17 100 lb cardstock at FedEx office. I'm not sure what you received.

As for the copy of Frogz 64 that you received from me 2 years ago, I would be more than happy to send you an updated replacement cartridge and even a new box since the old one appears to be messed up.

I would much rather you had just PM me regarding this rather than blasting my current project publicly and making a big scene. I would have took care of you no problem at all.

Frogz 64 was one of my very first games and I hadn't quite figured out what I was doing at the time of release, they were many version numbers all with different bugs corrected.

But rest assured I have learned from these mistakes and I am not just "shovelling more shit" as you so elegantly put it, this is a serious project and I am much more experienced than I was 2 years ago.

Also regarding the matter of it simply being a copy of Fast Food if you refer to the original post I clearly stated that the video does not represent what the final gameplay would be like and that this video is only showcasing the graphics and soundtrack. Almost everything you suggested is what I am already planning on doing with this project, the only exception would be that instead of harpoons I was planning on using anchors that fall from a boat hull. The gameplay here will be mission based for each wave instead of random people just swimming into the scene. That's all I will say now regarding that.

To correct you it is actually a copy of FF64 Holiday snacks, a totally different game of mine with different game code than FF64. (Not buggy either, not at all)

ALSO Im sorry to say I dont know what you mean about the transition from the shark and the background, you are implying that there is black pixelation or a halo surrounding the shark, however there is not. That is a simple matting/dither edit in photoshop that has already been done! The edges cant get any cleaner than that. Im not sure what it is you are seeing here.

Anyway in regards to your Frogz 64 purchase, I really am sorry you aren't happy with it and I will work towards me and you resolving the matter but I would prefer to do so in PM, not here as this is getting off topic.

I really am sorry if this post upset you, or anyone else for that matter. That was not my intention. I simply wanted to share an early look at this idea I have as I think it will be something truly special. I will reach out to you here in a bit and try and resolve your Frogz 64 issue.

Thanks

I already did. I did it in 2017, and then again in 2018. It really takes a lot for me to trash a product. I'm the guy that gives all 5 stars on product reviews. It really takes a lot for me to give anything but totally positive feedback. I know you're acting like... Oh, shocked, no idea what's going on... why are people on AtariAge mad at me. I was pretty calm when I thought it was just me, and I figured I'd be nice. But then when I realized all your "games" are like this, and literally you're having these problems with *EVERYONE* ... then I decided I was just going to be honest. So we're clear, I'm not "making a scene" or "upset." Just being honest with you.

I'm still waiting for this:

"Just send me the cart, keep the other stuff. I will send you the corrected cart (once its built) and a CD version of the game Free of charge. In fact you dont even have to send it right away. You can hold onto it until the other cart and CD is in the mail. I will tell you when, that way you can still have time to play it more."

You sent it "Sat Oct 14, 2017 1:30 PM"

Still waiting. Let me know... happy to send it back when YOU send me a fixed on.

Yup, sure is.

Any off chance you have a copy of the Primate programming language post? I seem to recall the 32 bit version stepped up to 32 monkeys and an error checking goat. I have searched for that post/text and cannot find it anywhere.

So the long preview video is....no actual gameplay that will be in the game but an excuse for you to showcase some graphics and sound, presumably so you can then point your indigo go campaign to raise 3000 dollars for a blue cartridge. Btw are you allowed to offer those perks?

I thought jag boxing (you know, where you showed a fake video running under the modelling sw to make it appear as if the actual jaguar graphics would be high Rez) was this years must have. Must, being the mould found on grapes of course.

And yet, once again, youve got a box design ready.

Slight point of order - you dont tend to swim with all your clothes on, you may want to change the graphics unless thats climate change mode.

A true showcase of sloppiness, indeed. They should have fixed the scrolling + music speed changes/slowdowns before showing off. Good luck anyway!

You know how buggy and useless rB+ is, right? It's so difficult to get anything looking smooth and good with it.

Can't be a real project, there's no box.

If your intention was to show something beautiful made with rB+ you could have just shared the Shark Byte video

:)

Also I haven't made any box yet. I dont plan on making the box ever. I dont make the boxes anymore.
