Was there ever a home release of bosconian?? I think a 2600 variation may be possible, minus the stars.

There is a very good port of Bosconian for the MSX computers. It was made by Namco itself. I could post a screenshot here later...

i dont think that the radar would be too terribly difficult to do

Bosconian is basically Rally-X minus the maze plus space stations that can only ever appear one at a time. I think if you can do one you can do the other (the first 2 in 1 homebrew anyone? ;) ) but I haven't played either game enough times to try it myself.

?

I'm confused. :? I swear that multiple space stations were on the screen at once. Or maybe you're just talking about the limitations of the 2600. :ponder:

Wow, I think that's the first post in a long time that I've used capitals, punctuation, and sentences correctly. Hmmpf.

the early levels feature few stations spaced far apart, but on the later levels it is quite possible to have many stations on screen at once and enemy fighters too.

there is an absolutely fabulous version of bosconian for the x68000 computer, the best version i've ever played. it had updated graphics and music, but they made the excellent decision to not change the game play at all :-)

Ok. That's what I thought. I could've sworn that there were some stages that started you off in a ring of the stations and you usually got your butt whooped if you weren't paying attention.

If any homebrewer could conquer this challenge I'm sure there would be many thanks and praises going to him/her. This would be one game I would love to add to my collection.

Draconian's not yet playable, but the display engine does work and it's far enough along that you can fly around.

Amazing! Well worth the wait!

Thanks! I still get giddy watching the multi-colored stars as they slowly move in the background. They feel just like a classic arcade game.

For those who haven't checked it out, use draconian_20140405.bin from this blog entry. If you're using Stella be sure to follow the instructions, directly above the ROM, for turning on Phosphor Mode.

Looks amazing!

(Wasn't "Draconian" the name of the Color Computer knockoff version of Bosconian?)

Thanks!

Yeah, AtariLeaf brought that up in the comments of the first Draconian blog entry. Nathan and I weren't aware of it when we decided on the name.

AtariLeaf did a nice video about the CoCo version:

Always looking forward to a SpiceWare release!

I remember old games back thru Pac Man and Sprint, Stunt Cycle, and even Pong Arcade, but I never ever saw or played Bosconian.

Very odd.

Never saw it at an arcade or auction or store, but it is right there in MAME.

I've seen some odd titles. Haley's Comet anyone? That took quite a while to show up in MAME.
