Gunstar
I've been on an RPG kick again latley, for all my systems that have RPG's, and I was wondering if there might be some on the 8-bit that I'm not aware of, which would most likely mean something from England/Europe. I know about the Alternate Reality(Datasoft), Ultima(Origin/Lord British), Phantasy and others from SSI that were released in the U.S., but are there any besides these that maybe weren't released in the states that I may not have heard of? I'm hoping for something "3D-ish" like Alternate Reality or A Bard's Tale (on everything but the 8-bit as far as I know), but anything would be cool. Thanks for any info. Gunstar
OK, maybe we should try this another way; the ST forum has an awsome thread with people listing all the RPG's they can think of that came out on the ST, so, I'll start: Alternaty Reality: City&Dungeon Ultima 1, 2, 3, 4 Phantasie Wizards Crown Temple of Aphsai *(spelling?) Upper Reaches of Aphsai* Curse of Rah * *Temple of Aphsai Trilogy Telengard...

+davidcalgary29
I bought Klatwa from an eBay seller, but can't seem to get beyond the title screen. Can anyone advise if this might just be a problem with my NTSC machine?
Gunstar
Was "the curse" ATR link taken down legal reasons or anything? I wanted to get a copy but it states the link doesn't exist anymore?

+CharlieChaplin
Well, I also know some german RPG`s: 1) Castle of Blackthorne - a Dungeon Master clone, but unfinished... 2) Arkaneth 1 (from compyshop magazine); 3) Arkaneth 2 (also from compyshop magazine); 4) Demo-Dungeon (from Atari magazine; unfinished); 5) Lankhmar (from Atari magazine); 6) Gothic 1 (very boring; part 2 never released!) Most of these games used german language, but I guess the Demo-Dungeon and Lankhmar use english (but I am unsure). greetings, Andreas Magenheimer... Gunstar
Thanks for the list, although there are only a couple of titles there that I didn't know were considered RPG's; quest of the space beagle (thought that was a "space sim") and Mindshadow (thought that was an "electronic book", a text adventure). Also you left off the two very best, although I already mentioned them; the AR:city&dungeon games. (although that's definately arguable, I know some feel nothing tops the Ultima games)
Serblander
RPG's are my favourite genre of games (the old-school games like SSI AD&D games of yesteryear) (along with multyplayer/link-up games) but I haven't played Ultima yet. Personally, the best Fantasy Adventure RPG that I have ever played is Wizard's Crown on my trusty ST. I'm still searching for the sequel (The Eternal Dagger) for my 65XEGS but am having a hard time finding it. It only ever seems to come up on eBay when I'm high-bidding on some Jag stuff. By the way, when I do get it, will it work on the 65XEGS? I know it's for the 800XL but I don't know if it will be compatible, or if I have to get myself another console for a single game. Shaggy the Atarian
One of those games on the list I like is AutoDuel. Great game. Unfortunately, mine won't work as I accidentally overwrote Side B of the disk trying to save the game, so I have a working Side A and Side C, no Side B though. Anyway I could get the program online(not emulated). I do have a couple of RPG's on my ST, but I don't remember the names though. I'll check and if I have The Eternal Dagger, I'll let you know

Wrathchild
Rogue was released (Mastertronic I think), but was a bit naff. The ST Rogue I liked, but not as much as a text based Nethack!
Shaggy the Atarian
Yeah...get an SIO2PC to make a new disk (or have somebody that owns one do it for you). Hey, thanks for the tip! I'm a little unfamiliar with SIO2PC...what is it exactly?
Nukey Shay
It's a cable that connects the Atari computer or disk drive's serial I/O port to a serial port on your PC (SIO-to-PC). You can then use software (like APE) on your PC the transfer disk images (like .atr's) to that cable...and allow the Atari computer to load it, copy it, etc. This allows you to use the extensive library of programs archived on the internet with the actual machine And you can get one here at AA's store, with or without the Atari cable. Shaggy the Atarian
Nice! That's something I've been wanting for a long time now. I'd been wondering if there was a way to download Atari 8-bit games off the net to use them on your disk drive. I'll have to look into investing into that
