david mundy
I still like my old atari 800, and i own a few of them. Occasionally one will act up with various symptoms. Flashing lines in the picture, or loss of the program in memory or whatever. I have repaired most problems by simply dis-assembling the whole unit. lay each board out on a table, keep track of how to re-assemble each piece. or you will have a big SCHMESS! . . . Using a small screw driver, pry UP on the end of each Integrated Circuit A LITTLE BIT. DON'T pry it OUT, just pry it UP a little... then push it back IN to the socket. Use a cotton ball with alcohol to clean all the EDGE-connectors of the plug in boards. If the copper foil of the edge connector looks darkened a LOT from oxidation, then you may need to use a rubber eraser to rub off most of the oxidation. THEN use the cotton/alcohol to clean the connector. Now re-assemble the whole schmeel carefully. This can also be done to your GAME CARTRIDGES. I have fixed several this way. DanBoris
These are excellent steps to follow to fix most old computer or video game consoles. I have fixed 90% of non-working/twitchy systems using this procedure. Dan Boris
