liveinabin
Right, I don't have an Atari 8-bit (yet ) but my friend is raving about Rally Speedway. Is it as good as he reckons? If so, what's so great about it?
Gunstar
Yes, Rally Speedway ROCKS!!! It's got great graphics (for it's age), great control, lots of cool little details like your man jumping and running from an accident in flames and rolling to put them out then waving that he's all right...very cool. It has one or two player modes, you can go off road and find shortcuts, but be careful not to crash into trees or buildings! Overhead perspective like Power Drive Rally on the Jaguar, or similiar to RC Pro-Am on the NES. Lots of options to set the game the way you want it...etc, etc. Just an all around great game...it can be found on both cart and disk versions (of course it can be downloaded off the net too). liveinabin
thanks label -buddy. I've just found a 800 emulator for the mac - I'll have a go at it just as soon as I've prised you off a blue-swirly label
Albert
I'll add my voice here in favor of Rally Speedway. It's a great game and worth checking out if you're into Atari 8-bits (or want to be.. ) ..Al
Master
Rally Speedway is probably the most fun game when you play it with somebody else. I remember countless hours when I played it with my brother. Our screams of joy or hate could be heard even outside our house. It was damn fun. Especially the animation where the driver crashes, rolls and waves goodbye to his car. When I showed it to my wife on PC emulator she started to laugh. It`s so funny. If you can, download the emulator and try it on PC. I tried and it`s still great fun nowadays (despite Need for Speed series and alike). Mindfield
I loved Rally Speedway largely for its plethora of configurable options. Oh, it had great graphics and sound, but setting the roads to icy, speed to maximum, and the game mode to "Only in a computer" made for some wild and wooly "no-clipping" racing fun. Or, set it to realistic with the same options for some rather impossible-to-avoid-crashing gameplay. Of course, it was a very detailed game anyway, lots of little afterthoughts put into the game, which really made it all a well put-together package. For pure fun racing, this game was simply it. The only screenshot I was able to find of it is on this page. Oh, wait, I just found a screenshot of it on this APX page. I didn't realize it's an APX game. ..Al
