The other most common failure in the 800XL is a bad ram chip, just grab a known-good 64kx1 RAM and start swapping them one at a time. Gunstar Posted February 10, 2002 Share Posted February 10, 2002 If it is just a bad ram chip, you can turn on the computer without anything else on, holding the option button and it will go into a diagnostic mode which includes rom&ram tests. If you can't get to this system test, there's more wrong than just a memory chip out. If you can, it will show you which bank of memory it is, and then a little further deduction will clue you into which chip it is on the board.
