Thelen
who could tell me how the data is saved to a tape, or know a site with some information about it. is it true that the only important used lines for data are the motor control and data in line (from atari)? i want to connect it to my computer, so i can save some tapes and load them from my pc. thanks, thelen
Retro Rogue
Are you saying you want to actually load them back on to a real atari from a PC? Or just create tape images? If all you're interested is creating images (that can be run in an emulator) of your tapes, you can simply pop the tape in to any tape recorder (I use a walkman) and hook the recorder up through the sound inputs on your computer. Then simply create a wav file of the tape (1 for each side if you have stuff on both sides). From there use wav2cas to convert the wav file to a cas format. Cas is basicly a digital format/imaging of an analog audio data file. The emu's Atari800 and Atari800+ recognize them. As far as loading it back on to a real Atari, I believe APE supports that. Andreas Magenheimer
Well, if you want to know every single bit of how a program is saved onto tape, then visit the homepage of bo and ernest Schreurs (damn, I do not know the URL right now). They have created the WAV2CAS program and did a very detailed description of how it is generally done (and how to convert tapes to WAV)... Believe me, they described everything, not only the 128 bytes length but every single bit inside this data block and overhead bits, etc. etc. But I did not understand a thing, since I am no programmer, no computer professionel, no electrician...
