Draugr
Hi, I just got a Demon Attack cartridge in the mail today. I tried inserting it into my 130 XE but it sits at a typical blue screen then the READY prompt comes up. I know certain 400/800 carts are siad not to work with XL/XE systems. Anyone know if DA works? Jetboot Jack
DA works fine as far as I know - sounds like dirty contacts the machine is not even seeing teh cart - carts that are not XE compatible don't drop you to basic they handg the machine sTeVE

Draugr
Ok, So how do I get this cart to work on my 130 XE? Is there a way?
+Mitch
You have to use a translator cartridge. It's kind of a pain to use as well. Mitch http://atari7800.atari.org
Jetboot Jack
Ok - DA works on OS A/B, but still it should not drop to basic, but crash the machine - Astrochase et al make my XE display go spastic not bring up basic. Even with a trasnlator cart (which I often use to play Astrochase) I wonder if the DA cart needs cleaning... sTeVE

ndary
Yes the Cart needs needs cleaning... i use a simple penceil eraser to clean the cartrdige edge.. this works all the time.. it is possible to use a cartridge translator and run all of the old 800/400 cartridges on XL/XE. Draugr
Where can I get one of these translator carts? I didn't see any on Ebay.
+Mitch
quoteWhere can I get one of these translator carts? I think all of the three main Atari dealers have them for around $20. Check in the dealers section of the AtariAge links for either: Best Electronics, B&C, or Video 61. Mitch http://atari7800.atari.org

To run 400/800 only software you could put a switchable OS rom into your XE for example the APE Warp OS rom. Additional benefit with the APE OS rom is that you could load most software in Warp speed. Atari Smeghead
Re: Using a Translator Cartridge... Ok, I've used a couple of different "versions" of the Translator Disk (I have one called "XL Fix" and one that I think is called Translator, with a gold Fuji logo) and I understand the concept of using a translator disk with a disk-based game easily enough. But I've never been able to wrap my mind around how to Translate a cartridge based game, especially with a Translator cart. Does the cart have some sort of pass-thru? Also, does anyone know exactly which version of the Translator program is on the carts?
Jetboot Jack
The Translator Cart has several flavors of 800 OS on it, you select what you want from a menu then pull the cart, the system reboots in that OS... To use with carts you pull the cart with select held down, a green screen comes up - you firmly pop in your new cart and the system reboots and the cart runs - simple sTeVE
Atari Smeghead
Thanks, Steve! I never would've guessed that one on my own. So, the Translator disks I have must be a couple of different versions of the 800 OS. I did notice that certain games would only work with one or the other. Man, I LOVE this website! Where have you been all my Atari life?
