XL
I recently bought an 2nd hand Atari 1050 diskdrive and an Atari 800XL. With this diskdrive this cable was supplied. The grey cable has a Centronics connector. The black connector is the standard diskdrive connector. The diskdrive has an (non standard) switch at the front. Also the 800XL has an little lock at the top. (i will post a pic of it tonight if necessary). What purpose does the cable and the switches have? Does anyone know? TXG/MNX
Hmm the only printer interface on the 1050 I know for the 1050 is attached to the Turbo 1050 but that 1 is internal. Could you post or send me photo's of the inside of the 1050 and the box. I can see if I can tell you what it is. I have many 1050 upgrades but this is something I didn't see before... XL
the dog loves to play Atari ((-; Ok, here are the pics. If you need more pics let me know (-;
Bryan
The switch is a write protect switch. It goes to the wires that would normally go to a photodiode (which seems to be removed). The interface box contains a microcontroller and a program ROM. This is some sort of SIO interface (possibly for a printer). -Bry
TXG/MNX
Yep the 1050 is modified with a write-protect switch and the interface is a homemade SIO printer interface. This is not something rare...
Curt Vendel
Your mystery box is a printer interface with an eprom with most likely fonts on it, perhaps its an epson printer font set. But that box is not related to the disk drive. Curt

Callipygous
"German" comes direct from the Romans. Germanus is Latin for the peoples of Central Europe. Of course, Gaul is latin for France and we don't use that so much.
