Atari 1050 with Centronics connector cable.

XL

Recommended Posts

I recently bought an 2nd hand Atari 1050 diskdrive and an Atari 800XL.

With this diskdrive this cable was supplied.

getpicture.php?id=423450

The grey cable has a Centronics connector. The black connector is the standard diskdrive connector.

The diskdrive has an (non standard) switch at the front. Also the 800XL

has an little lock at the top. (i will post a pic of it tonight if necessary).

What purpose does the cable and the switches have?

Does anyone know? (-;

Hmm the only printer interface on the 1050 I know for the 1050 is attached to the Turbo 1050 but that 1 is internal.

Could you post or send me photo's of the inside of the 1050 and the box. I can see if I can tell you what it is. I have many 1050 upgrades but this is something I didn't see before...

The switch is a write protect switch. It goes to the wires that would normally go to a photodiode (which seems to be removed).

The interface box contains a microcontroller and a program ROM. This is some sort of SIO interface (possibly for a printer).

Ahhh... dutch invasion ;)

BTW... It was allways a riddle for me, that in english "deutsch" is called "german" and "holländisch" is called "dutch"...
