In case any of the AtariAge people are reading this, I have a rather large supply of Jaguar stuff. If you guys ever need scans for the webpage, I'd be happy to help out (I have over 30 games, all boxed... plus most of the hardware)

Hi Ze_ro,

We may just take you up on that offer. Right now I'm working on a Lynx section and after that's finished I'll be putting together the Jaguar section. I'm sort of doing them in parallel, but the Lynx stuff is getting most of my attention at present. The Jaguar is one of the few systems that I don't actually own any hardware or games for. So I'm either going to have to go on an eBay spending blitz or find kind souls to help with scans and pictures.

If anyone has any Jag stuff they'd like to unload, I'd be more than happy to take it off your hands at a reasonable price..

Thanks,

..Al

A couple of things that I think need to be known here: The Jaguar was released into the PUBLIC DOMAIN in, I believe, '97, by Hasbro. So all the hardware for that system IS public domain and anyone can program for it, etc. As far as it's software goes, I suppose SOME of it might fall into the public domain catagory, but I'm sure some of it is still under copyrights too. But, there aren't any emulators for it yet anyway, and probably won't be for a long time, as it is very hard to emulate it's custom chips...

Also, I'm a HUGE Jaguar fan, and I have 50 games, both cart and cd, with about half the boxes for them(I lost a lot of the boxes in a move when I lost all my 8-bit software and other things). I also have many of the very rare things, like a flashrom cart(used to send games to reviewers before publishing), that can be loaded with unencrypted software, I have the new cult classic Battlesphere too. I also have an extremely rare rotary controller for Tempest 2000, a custom made MAAS arcade stick that I've customized for the Jag, cd player, all the different controllers for it, TONS of advertisements and articles&reviews I tore out of magazines back in the day, and many other goodies for it. So if you need anything that Ze_ro doesn't have, just let me know, because I probably have it. I also have most of the newer, post Atari releases from Songbird Productions, like SKYHAMMER(from Rebellion, the makers of AlienvsPredator), Hyperforce and others.

I also have a few interesting Lynx items, like an unreleased eeprom(not a rom image) of Road Riot 4wd and a few other interesting items...

So just let me know, Albert, if you want me to photograph(didgital) or scan anything for the Lynx and Jaguar.

One more thing, although Hasbro never "officially" released the Lynx into the public domain, they stated that they would not pursue anybody who wants to do stuff with it either...for more info about this and the Jaguar, I know there are press releases on several web sites like, JFPN and The Atari Times, and Sonbird production's Carl Forhan would probably be more than happy to inform you of all you need to know about the current situation of the Jag and Lynx. I don't know the addresses off hand, but if you go to www.atarihq.com/interactive/ it has links to all the sites I mentioned and many more...

Oh, yeah, and Tempest, the Jaguar DOES have both new hardware and software still coming out for it AND being currently developed. Check www.songbird.atari.net and through Jaguar interactive, you can go to links for OMC games and Force design, two other companies currently developing stuff for the Jag(although, most likely, Songbird will be the publisher). Jaguar Frontpage News(JFPN) also has a list and links to ALL the stuff currently in development at their site...again, go to www.atarihq.com/interactive/ and the links can take you there...the Lynx still has new software coming out for it too...

I stopped collecting Jaguar stuff near the end of it's life, but I've been thinking of picking up where I left off. After all, this is one system that I actually have the possibility of completing How is Battlesphere anyways? I was already very interested in this game, but I got screwed over when they didn't make enough of them Though I haven't made any serious efforts to get one since then...

Sounds cool, just let me know when you need them, and at what resolutions you want me to scan them. I sure hope the cartridges scan properly, what with the goofy handle at the top and all...

I'm curious, when the Lynx and Jaguar sections go up, are you planning to allow ROM downloads for them like you have for the 2600/5200/7800? (I've been in the emulation scene long enough to know how piracy is viewed, but for some reason no one seems to mind pirating 2600 roms. Wether this is because of the age of the system, the fact that Atari is basically non-existant now, or just because they're so small, I don't know)

You bring up a good point. I think the main reason why the companies who control the rights do not really seem to mind is that they really can't make anymore off the games as it is other than in some other emulated format such as the various Activision paks etc.

However, I do want it to be known that several Rom sites that had roms for the Atari, Coleco, and Sega stuff were requested to remove them at the order of the respective companies. One site just recently removed all their roms on the Atari systems 2600,5200, and 7800 at Infogrames request (3 weeks ago).

So it really depends. The Jaguar is a classic and non supported system for the most part now...but then again...it is also much newer than the classic 8 bit consoles of the 80s.

We shall just have to see and the ultimate decision will ride on the shoulders of Alex and Albert.

It's a great game(Battlesphere), it runs at 60fps, has great polygon graphics with light sourcing and some textures, has quite a few different modes of play including one that is like Star Raiders, and a free-for-all mode like Doom "deathmatch" that can be hooked up to, like, 16 Jag's for a huge match(i've only done two consoles, but it's awsome!) plus tons of extras...Definately one of the Jags top 5-10 games. If you can get a copy, it's worth it, if you can afford it; I've seen it going on E-bay for 350-400, but Scatalogic still has 50 left that they are supposed to auction off in the near future on Atari.net/auctions, starting at 69 or 79 bucks, just watch Atari.net or http://www.battlesphere.com
