Atari Smeghead
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...5&category=3537 Ok, now, I don't think this is the first time I've ever seen this style of power supply, But good lord, is it ever huge! Especially in this pic, sitting next to a 600XL. When did this monster PS first appear? Did it ever attack Tokyo and have a battle with a giant lizard? Seriously, the 400/800 had a normal sized PS, as did every XL and XE I've owned. Does anyone know WHY some XLs had this brick design? What was the time frame for it? It was only some XLs and no other 8 bit system, right? About the only nice thing I can say about it is... well, it DOES match the XL's style. Callipygous
Those are really not that big. They are lower and longer than the black bricks. Ben Poehland called them the "beauty queen" model with the styling to match the XL line. Actually, they are recommended because, unlike the older ones, you can open them for repair. Albert
Yeah, I have some of those. They are pretty big, especially when put next to a 600XL. It is amusing that the styling matches the XL line. ..Al

Callipygous
Well, they are big. I meant as compared to the black ugly ones, they aren't much different in volume. A big advantage to them is that they have vents. Much less prone to overheat.
Atari Smeghead
So, you're saying that in terms of weight, the "Beauty Queen" is about the same as the black brick? I've never been up-close to the Queen. It just cracked me up, when I saw that pic of it next to the 600xl. My main experience with power supplies are the 800 series ones, tho I have owned an 800XL and a 600XL. I never thought about repairing a PS. I've never actually had one die before, but I have come across one or two already dead. (I swear, I never touched it, officer, I found it this way! ) But really, leave it to Atari to make a PS nearly as big as the system. Speaking of big Atari Power Supplies... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...6&category=1250 What's this one? (This auction only has a few hours left, so hopefully, the pic will last a bit after the auction ends.)

I believe that is an original Atari 520ST power supply. ..Al
