Wanted: Primal Rage

I'm sure this will turn out bust, but it doesn't hurt to try. I'm looking for a copy of Primal Rage so I can complete my Jaguar collection (and put more scans of Primal Rage online). I've only played the arcade game, so I'm interested in seeing how well done the Jaguar conversion was done. It's one of the few fighting games that's held my interest for more than 5 seconds, probably because of the unique setting.

There's an auction on eBay that ends tomorrow and it has a single bid of $49.99, the opening price. I wasn't expecting it to be this much, but if it's one of the rarer Jaguar games I shouldn't be too surprised..

You should put in a bid. From what I've seen, it tends to sell for about $60-70. Both new and used. It may be that the one bidder has a much larger limit though.

Got anything interesting to trade?

I have a rather large tradelist, although very little for the Jaguar just yet. Unfortunately I'm away from all my stuff right now, so I can't really do any trades at the moment. I can send you the tradelists I typed up for CGE, though, as those are virtually unchanged since then.

I'll probably put in a bid for Primal Rage, especially since it's the last game I need. I wasn't sure what it normally goes for, so I appreciate your insight where that's concerned.

To be honest, Primal Rage isn't as good on the Jaguar as it is in the arcades. Now, I haven't played the arcade version very much (In fact, the only PR machine I've ever seen was in Minneapolis)... but they apparently screwed up the combo system, so any combos that work in the arcade have little chance of working on the Jaguar version I haven't played this game enough to actually figure out if there are any new combos that work in it that don't in the arcade. I should also point out that without a ProController, the control is a little wacky since you need four buttons to play the game properly. And finally, the load times are horrendous. It even loads when you do a fatality. Normally this kinda junk doesn't bother me, since I'm quite used to PC games... but it ends up being pretty annoying on the Jaguar.

On the plus side though, the game has all the animation, sound, and graphics that are in the arcade version as far as I know. It's still a very good game, and probably one of the best Jaguar fighting games (I never thought Ultra Vortek was all that great).

Good luck finding it... I'm not about to trade my copy away (Strangely, my Jaguar is probably my most impressive collection, since I have such rarities as the Catbox)

One thing about the Jaguar version of Primal Rage is the Fighter sprites are smaller than on other systems and the Arcade. Apparently it was some memory limitations. I also read somewhere that if you fight the same character as you are you will get double the speed - due to the fact that the fighter image has to only be in memory once. Actually, I would have preferred double the size

Hi Carl, thanks for the tip. Depending on how that auction goes tomorrow, I may come knocking on your door. You have several Lynx games I need to get my hands on as well, so you'll probably be hearing from me either way.

Well, I won the auction for Primal Rage, however after the auction I realized that the auction may only have been for the shrinkwrapped jewel case and not the complete Primal Rage with box. The auction has a scan of the jewel case and not the box, which is what makes me suspicious (plus the auction doesn't say anything about the box). My bad, I should have asked questions before the auction was over.

Haven't yet heard back from the seller, but I may end up with an extra copy of Primal Rage if anyone's interested. I must have the box, since all my other Jag titles are complete with the box.

If the seller is listing it as new, and it doesn't have the original box, then he is misrepresenting the product (it is NOT new if it doesn't have the box), and you could get out of it. I have recently run into the same situation. I ordered a "NEW" copy of MYST, a game I already have and only want BECAUSE of the box for my collection. I have discovered that it does not come with the original box (the whole reason I wanted it!), so I am refusing payment on it do to false claims and am reporting the person to E-bay. If I get a bad feedback report from the guy, I'll just have to add the truth to it and live with it. It would be my only negative feedback anyway.

Oops, I had the wrong link in my original message above, I've fixed it so it points to the auction correctly. To quote the auction description,

"This is a very rare item, New Factory Sealed Primal Rage CD!"

The problem is, there's no mention of a box and if the CD is still sealed, then, well, I'm not sure I have any recourse except to pay for the auction. If it's the original factory shrinkwrap around the jewel case, then the description is accurate. I won't be too pleased about it, but I'm not sure it's something I want to risk a negative feedback over.

The seller is "goatari" and has a feedback rating of 1628, so I'm sure they've been doing this for some time. I hope they wouldn't intentionally misrepresent an item. Anyway, I sent him/her an email and am waiting for a response as to whether it's boxed or not.

That's comforting. Odds are quite good that I've bought items from this seller myself in the past. I've just been trying to stay away from eBay lately when possible. After I finish my move I'll probably try to finish up my 5200 and 7800 collections via eBay (I only need Bounty Bob Strikes Back and the Diagnostic Cart for the 5200, although that's just counting loose carts). Hopefully I can balance that by putting up tons of auctions (over time) to get rid of the excess hardware and software I have.

Oh yeah, you can make quite a killing stuff at auctions. The key is to sell everything seperately. Also sign up for PayPal and let them do auto notification on all your buyers, that way you have less emails to write. Remember that Billpoint takes a nice chunk of change from you - PayPal is the best to use at auctions.

Make sure you put a link to your site and forum on your Jaguar sales in the PayPal notification area so you can get some of these buyers into the community.

Well, all I know is that no Jagcd's came new without the outer box except Blue lightning and Vidgrid that came with the Jagcd. No games ever had the inner cd case shrinkwrapped, only the outer box. So if it is a shrinkwrapped case, it has been shrinkwrapped since the box was damaged or lost or whatever. Only the outer boxes were ever shrinkwrapped. So the game may indeed be a new game that has never been played, but it is not complete or mint without the box. Obviously do what you feel is the right or just thing to do; in my situation I'm not getting the very thing that I wanted or thought I was getting, I feel that is false advertising at least, and do not want the game in the condition it actually is-I have that already.
