I've just purchased a new Jaguar with Defender 2000.

I'm interested in having a play about with it, but where can I get an interface cable for the cart slot? Or do you use a ROM cartridge?

Also, can I play downloaded ROMS in this manner?

You take the Defender 2000 cartridge and insert it into the Jaguar cartridge slot, power the game up and have a play.

There is no interface cable for the cart slot necessary to play normal games.

You could not play Roms unless you had what is called a Flash Cart - and then I think you need some kind of burner - both are very rare and very expensive.

I had worked out where the cart slot was lol

Is there anywhere that sells flash carts you know of?

Cheers

If when you say play "about" with it, you mean to try and modify the game in some way, forget it. These aren't 2600 rom images that you can edit graphics on them. You would have to some how get a hold of the original source code for the game in order to do anything.

The Flashrom needs a rs232 cable (parallel cable) to hook up to a PC, and a special program loader to download rom images to it. There are also 2 megabyte and 4 megabyte Flashroms, so you need to make sure you have the 4 meg one if you want to be able to download any Jag rom (assuming you can find the roms in the first place and don't mind being a pirate. This is one of the only ways to play the game PhaseZero though, the other ways are to have the equipment to actually burn it to a cart or having an entire development system with an ALPINE board, which can be use in the same way as a flashrom, but needs a development Jaguar system (AFAIK). Below is a list of the best, easily found and reasonably priced games that you sill want to get.

Iron Soldier

Tempest 2000

Power Drive Rally

Super Burnout

Val d'Isere Skiing&Snowboarding

Rayman

Missle Command 3D

Wolfenstein 3D

These are usually a bit more expensive and/or rare:

Alien vs. Predator

Atari Karts

Zero 5

Iron Soldier II

Worms

SkyHammer

Protector

Hyperforce

Battlesphere

SpaceWar 2000(unfinished but good)

There are a many other good Jag games, but these are generally considered the best. IF you get the Jag cd, then I also highly recommend Battlemorph, IS2 cd version, Highlander, Myst, World Tour Racing (fun if not graphically stunning). Other cd games are fun, but not fantastic. I'm sure I forgot a few of the greats, but I'm also sure someone here will speak up about them.

Im sad to say that i have to part with my jaggy stuff. its been fun over the past few years playing these games and using the devkit, but i have car problems and i need to fix them and i need some cash. As of now im selling the devkit for $350. that includes the stub jag + alpine and controller and hookups. E-mail me about the games if your interested. Im posting this here first before i put the stuff on ebay. e-mail me if you have any questions. I would like to sell the games in a bundle rather than individually.
