Turbo cassette mod

Is a "compact cassette" a microcassette?  :ponder:

No, it's just a regular cassette tape. That was the name that Phillips (of the Netherlands) used when they introduced the format in the 1960s.

Cassette tapes used to have the "Compact Cassette" logo (for authenticity) the same way that CD's have the "Compact Disc Digital Audio" logo. This was because there were other competing tape formats like Sony's Elcaset (a larger tape cartridge that housed 1/4" tape).

There where several "Turbo-Tapes' upgrades for the 1010/xc212 tape drives.

the first one i saw was called "RAMBIT" at it was designed in the early 80ths in UK. later Trubo2000 & AST upgrades started to show in eastern europe.

the original Tape game was needed to be converted to turbo format, but once it did it reduced the loading time dramticlay.. .i.e. Bruce Lee on tape was 212 Records had been cut to 42 records.

all turbo upgrade requires a special loader to load the new turbo format. these loaders needs to be loaded before the "shrunked" game.. in east europe cartriges that contains this loader also appeard. along with utilities to convert regular tape games to turbo format.

the fasted tape upgrade supposed to be the czech turbo6000. that you can see above..

there is also a similar CDROM interface for the ATARI, look at the attached picture
