+davidcalgary29
Whats the deal with Pastfinder? Why is it so rare? I believe that it was one of Activision's last cartridge releases for the 8-bits. Both manufacturers and computer owners were moving toward disk-based games by early '84, as they were cheaper to manufacture and easier to store, and the disk format usually allowed games that were bigger and more complex than anything that you could find on cartridge at the time. "Pastfinder" also had a pretty weird premise, and it wasn't widely advertised, so I think that most computer owners gave it a pass. This is certainly unfortunate, as it's a great game, and much more fun than any one of the other "Zaxxon" clones floating around out there. I bought my only "Pastfinder" cart in '84 (a Kay-Bee closeout sale), and haven't seen another one since then.
deathtrappomegranate
I agree. Pastfinder is a very good, playable game.
tjlazah
@david Do you mind scanning a good quality close up picture of the cart??? It would be cool to see what the label looks like!!
+davidcalgary29
I don't have my cart with me, I'm afraid; I left it at my parents' house. My cart had a rather drab brown label with either white or yellow lettering on it. I'm sure Callipygous or Rob Catron could indulge you with a label scan if you asked. Callipygous
.... cart had a rather drab brown label with either white or yellow lettering on it. Thanks, Rob. Activision had dull labels on the 8-bit carts. Maybe H.E.R.O. is decent, but, out of 15 carts, nothing really memorable.
Tempest
My Pastfinder looks just like that except its cropped differently (a bit more of a close up) and doesn't have the copyright message on the bottom. I got it from Australia so it could be some kind of HES thing. Tempest

Agreed -- my favorite labels by far are the Synapse labels (just kidding) -- seriously, I love the Romox carts. There were even little inserts where you could order posters of the label art in side the boxes. To be such horrid games (save Topper) the artwork was excellent
deathtrappomegranate
I also have a Pastfinder cart that matches Tempest's description. It came from Australia too. I also have Zenji with two completely different labels, one of which also originated in Australia.
tjlazah
Well me and a friend are creating some Pastfinder carts with labels that match the original! I think they will turn out looking great. Once I get it I will post it here. I actually took the scan of my original Commodore 64 label and adapted it. It has the copyright info at the bottom too. The printed label looks authentic too. Would still love to have a boxed original though...
