birdie3
Does anyone else experience problems with carts not connecting on the first attempt on their 65XE or 130XE? I have carts that connect fine on the first attempt on some and not on others. They usually work after jiggling the cart or reseating the cart back in the slot a few times. Which model of 8 bit computer has the best cartridge slot, assuming this is the problem? Some carts possibly connect better than others because of their casing or whatever else. +DamonicFury
I've certainly had that problem a lot with my 65XE. It's probably the biggest reason I retired it, and made my upgraded 600XL my main Atari 8-bit machine. The 600XL/800XL probably have the best cartidge slot - on top of the machine and protected from dust by swinging doors... nice design! Opening and closing the top shell on the 400/800 to swap cartidges is a minor annoyance... plus there's a number of XE carts that just won't work on those machines. (Of course, there's a few carts that will ONLY work on a 400/800, like Astrochase.)
starraider
I have experienced problems especially with Parker Bros. carts on the Atari 130xe. They just won't work if I put them totally in. I have to move them a bit backwards to make them work. That's really awkyard sometimes...
+davidcalgary29
Many of my problems with my 130XE arise from the orientation of the cartridge slot at the back of the computer. It can be very difficult to stick a cart in without lifting up and turning around the computer, and it's more difficult to ensure that all the contacts are connecting in this position. The cart slot on the 130XE/65XE also seems to be very slightly longer than it is on all other 8-bit computers, and I've ruined at least one homebrew cart by shoving it in too far and dislodging / destroying various soldered connections. deathtrappomegranate
The cart slot on the XE computers was badly designed. If it ain't broke...
