What about Colorview pictures?

I think the Colorview technique is quite useful for showing high-color graphics at a good resolution.(160*192 , 64 colors , 80*192 4096 colors)

 

For example cut-scenes in an adventure or role-playing game.

 

Or for intro/title-screens like on the AMIGA where the HAM mode was often used for intro pictures only.

 

Since it takes much CPU time, 3 screens = lots of RAM and flickers, it´s not useful for ingame graphics IMO.For ingame graphics, P/M overlays are the best choice IMO.

 

BTW. Anyone tried this technique with players on the ATARI 8 Bit? Something similar seems to work on the VCS 2600.Would be interesting for demos for example.
