viande
Hi 10$ canadian got me the following box lying under a dusty table in a basement church bazaar: 1 2600 Jr 1 6-switch 2600 not working 8 joysticks and paddles. 40 or so cartridges. thats where i discovered this site. looking for a rarity list. hum... What would you do? The box contained amongst others, Gas Hog and Bumper Bash! Wow. I dont know if these two cartriges came from Columbia House or where sold in stores (i live in Montreal, Quebec, Canada) But! My excitement stoped when I found out (after hacking inside it) that my 6-Switch 2600 had... a PAL RF box!. Some sites mention that PAL cartrigdes would vertically "roll" on NTSC systems... no such thing here. The carts play fine on two monitors Ive tried on RF... plus with my new Composite RCA outs. There really are no way of telling Spectravideo NTSC/PAL carts appart (besides dumping the rom and CRC comparing them with reference Good2600)??? Also it seems rather ODD that PAL carts would have "Sears video Arcade" captions on them.. as Sears is a north american store only right? anyway. the hunting continues... maybe a copy of Mangia fell somewhere else. david plogue software. Albert
Hi David! quote: There really are no way of telling Spectravideo NTSC/PAL carts appart (besides dumping the rom and CRC comparing them with reference Good2600)??? I have several Spectravideo PAL carts and they're all labeled "SPECTRAVIDEO" (on the label and plastic) and have the text "© 1983 SPECTRAVIDEO INTERNATIONAL LTD" at the top. All my NTSC releases are labeled "SPECTRAVISION" and are missing the copyright text at the top. Now, I don't know if this is a way to differentiate PAL/NTSC carts. It could just be that some carts have a Spectravideo label and others have a Spectravision label. Does anyone have more information? Gas Hog - PAL Gangster Alley - NTSC ..Al
Tempest
As far as I know Spectravision changed their name to Spectravideo sometime in 83. I've seen most of the store distributed games (Gangster Alley through Nexar) with both names, but I'be never seen Master Builder, Gas Hog, Bumper Bash, or Mangia with anything but Spectravideo. chrishind
I have all the oficially released UK PAL carts (boxed) and the only ones which have the Spectravision name are China Syndrome, Cross Force, Nexar and Tapeworm. Gas Hog and Bumper Bash never made it to the stores over here - I got my copies from a friendly dealer who went to a trade show. Most 3rd party titles have the 'compatible with Sears' legend on them.
