Tempest
I finally managed to track down a Save Mary prototype that a collector is willing to part with (it's not as high as the one on ebay, but it's still not coming cheap). He says this is one of the ones that came from the Best auctions (I know B&C found another one so there may have been more than just the few Best sold off). I was wondering what the labels on the EPROMS are suppose to look like? The lables on this one are just plain white and one has Save written on it. I'm curious if Best put these generic labels on or if that's how they came from Atari. Does anyone else have a Save Mary prototype they can look at and tell me what their labels look like? Marco(2)
Hi Matt, My copy has two small white stickers also, one of them reads 'Save', the other is empty. Good luck getting your copy from John Cheers, Marco
Tempest
If you ever want to trade Squoosh or Rabbit Transit let me know. I'm still kicking myself over letting those slip through my fingers. Tempest
Guest
Hey Marco, So do I infer that you have Squoosh and Rabbit Transit (Atari version)? Any chance we could get some screenshots? I realize you may not have the equipment to dump the ROM (or maybe you do) for a real screen capture, but even some good photos of the TV screen would be better than nothing. I know I'd like to see what these look like, and they're some of the few we're missing from the screenshot gallery.
Bob Bytchin
Alex, I notice that you also don't have Starpath's Dragonstomper in your ROM collection. Is there some reason why not?
Guest
We do not post any Starpath ROMs because the Cyberpunks are still selling Starpath CD's with the ROMs under an agreement with Bridgestone. Once they are sold out, or are no longer selling them, we will post the ROMs. Likewise we do not post Edtris at the request of the programmer, or the Intellivision Production/Retrotopia games (Sea Battle and Swordfight) because we really don't want to interfere with legitimate sales. Although in the case of IP/R, I'm almost to the point where I say screw em, and post the ROMs because they sold me a defective Sea Battle for $25 and do not answer my emails asking for a return/replacement. Another friend of mine also got a defective cart and has gotten no response from them. Grrrrrr. Basically, any copyright holder that requests we not post their ROMs, we won't. Tempest
As far as I know Marco has both Squoosh and Rabbit Transit. John Earney said he sold them to Marco just weeks before I asked if he would consider selling them (damn it!). Ian (who was the original owner of Rabbit Transit) told me it looked just like the Supercharger game (at least as far as he could remember). I still wonder why Atari would make a prototype of a Supercharger game (unless it started out as an Atari game). I'd love to see pictures of Squoosh. I've been curious as to what it looks like. Marco(2)
Hi guys, I'll see what I can do. I have one of those modified 7800s to dump ROMs here, but somehow I'm feeling a bit uncomfortable using it. It's not that I don't want to dump the ROMs. It's just me I am rather clumsy and a-technical so it would be so like me to ruin the proto. I've been told that's impossible, so I may go ahead and just do it this weekend. Rabbit Transit just looks like the Starpath game. Squoosh looks pretty cool (big characters) but as you know, the game is unplayable. As for trading them, I'm pretty sure these will be in my possession for the rest of my life. I mean, I had to have a replacement for my first-born that I had to give up for these games Cheers, Marco

Trust me man, your 7800 works just great. Start with testdumping a few common games and soon you'll notice how easy it is to use it. I really really doubt anything can go wrong. /frax

jahfish
good to read that about the Retrotopia games (Sea Battle and Swordfight). so it looks like you must ask them twice to check the game before they send it !?!? i planned to order some, but i will just try to get the roms and save them onto eproms, after i managed to install myself a rom-dump- and copy-station .... hehe, don't put these roms online (might be to stressfull with them) but send them to all those crazy rom-collectors like matthias, hozervideo .... so it spreads around ... Eckhard Stolberg
Marco, sentiments like yours were one of the reasons why we chose to use a 7800 console as the basis for our cart reader. The transfer routine can't do anything to your games, that a normal 7800 couldn't do either. And the communication with the PC happens over the joystick port, pretty much like with the keyboard controllers or the Compumate. So, if you have no problem playing your prototypes on the 7800, then there shouldn't be a reason why you wouldn't want to use this console to read out the ROM data. And if you really are that clumsy, it's probably better to make some backup copies of your valuable carts for playing and store the originals in a safe place, where you can't reach them. Ciao, Eckhard Stolberg
jahfish
i don't touch mine either. never even tried the last i got: buck rogers from sega it got a nice single case and a safe place ... it has such a nice label, i would never think of opening it! Tempest
I never open a 2600 proto if it will rui the label, that's why I like 5200 protos since they don't have end labels to ruin. I always play with my proto's, at least a few times so I can figure out if they're any different from the final versions. My theory is why have something if you don't play with it? I guess that's why I'm crazy about prototypes, I just love finding the tiny little differences between them and the final release. Sometimes you can find strange things written on the EPROM's themselves, my 5200 Roadrunner proto has Biddy written on them. I have no idea what it means.
