+Random Terrain
J.D.P: Yep, that's funny. And TV shows and movies don't effect kids either. That's why there are commercials and product placement. Hollywood takes credit whenever their TV shows and movies affect the public in a positive way, but you know what they say when something bad happens. Remember when Fonzie from happy days got a library card and tons of viewers did too? Similar things have happened over the years, good and bad. If something is popular, many kids will copy it. Ever been karate chopped in the throat or other inconvienient place by your kid brother because of what he saw in a commercial, TV show, or movie? Computer games can have a certain effect on children's minds too, although it's usually not as direct as TV shows and movies. As a kid, after you watch a TV show or movie, you run out and play act what you just saw, and sometimes you may hurt other people or yourself. But, when you play a computer game, you just do it right there on the screen, so there's not as much of a need to play act later. Besides all of the intended and unintended messages kids absorb from computer games, there's a tangible way that games can affect kids. How about repetitive strain injuries such as carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow, tendinitis, and trigger finger? And that's not even counting all of the diseases they may get from not getting enough exercise because they're sitting around playing games. There's also damage that can come from constantly producing too much adrenaline. And the list goes on... jahfish
FofI: watch out, you're wacking up my anarchistic rebel spirit ... don't talk about TV shows and Commercials .... i don't even switch on my TV anymore for that type of stuff. i started collecting videos too, so that i don't "get sick" from all the bull on TV. I also think that the games nowadays suck, at least most of them. sure, there's many extras and special effects and whatever but not so much games have a real interesting gameplay. a friend of mine has a playstation any many many games he's trying out with me, but after five minutes i usually tell him ... "put micromachines in, or i'll go!" ... hehe, so since 5 or 6 years my favorite game is micromachines on that system. most of the newer games are more fun to play in real arcade versions with the appropriate controller, seat, etc .... also all those gameboy-kids don't look thrilled when they play, it rather looks like their brain is sleeping ... don't think that game was really made to entertain kids, rather just occupy them. it's just loosing time ..... had the industry planned that? back again for some conspiracy .... hehe, check out that site ... http://www.rtmark.com/
videotwit
fish- I'm not so sure I agree with your point about the GameBoy. I have one (well, several) that I absolutely love playing. There are ton's of great games for it that aren't mind-numbing at all - take for example Tetris Attack. A great up-to-date puzzle game (so it is a few years old). There are many more. It is also the system with the best "staying power" as far as length of time it has been produced. There's something to be said about that. I DO believe that most games today are stupid, however. How many variations on the first-person shooter can there be?!? Just my 2 cents BTW: I still like my 2600 the best
