Anyone played Ninja Gaiden yet?

Ninja Gaiden isn't out yet. It comes out on March 2nd in the US and the 11th in Japan.

I have played the demo and it's awesome. Going by the demo, the full version of Ninja Gaiden will be one of the best games this generation, across all platforms. The Ninja Gaiden trilogy is also unlockable in the game, but it isn't the NES versions, but the enhanced SNES versions.

My days off fall on the 2nd and 3rd this week and I have Ninja Gaiden pre-ordered, so I'll be all over Ninja Gaiden and I'll let you know how it is.

Better yet, don't wait for me, just get it.

I got my gaming fix back in the NES days on the Atari ST and never owned a NES. My best friend back in high school had an NES though and we played the awesome first Ninja Gaiden all the time when it came out.

Played a little Ninja Gaiden arcade on the Lynx as well. I am a big Team Ninja Tecmo fan though and have put many hours into Dead or Alive 2, Dead or Alive 3 and Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Vollyball and can't wait to get my hands on Ninja Gaiden. :D

The demo was OK...I'm not sure if the 3D approach will work well during some of the more frantic boss battles though. I don't know...part of me wishes they'd kept the series in 2D...the NES iterations were always known for their precise and difficult gameplay and I just don't see how anything approximating this style will be possible with the 3D engine. :|

Adrian M, I know what you are saying about the camera, but for a 3D next gen game, the camera in Ninja Gaiden is about as good as it gets. With me though, the camera might be a problem when your in a crowded room, with enemies coming at you from all sides, not the boss battles. When you think about it though, 2D had the same problem in a way, like when you would be at the edges ot the screen and an enemy would pop out at the edge that you couldn't see and get in a cheap shot. Happened all the time in 2D platformers and shooters back in the day.

Here is my thoughts on the Ninja Gaiden demo that I posted on another forum back when the demo first came out. I'm responding to someone's comments about the demo and did a little mini-review in the process:

I thought the demo of NG was great. I've finished it about 5 times now and got a 100+ combo one time. I still havn't been able to get Master Ninja level though. I saw a movie of this guy in Japan playing the NG demo and he did this super sick move where he had Ryu levitates up in the air and then he started to glow and sent out lightingbolts and killed everyone on screen...sick! If the demo is this fun, then the full version will be great stuff.

As for the vibe of Ninja Gaiden, it has a very 70's/early 80's martial arts movie vibe going on in the way that the game is presented...very cool in my opinion. It also pays homage to the NG and DOA series all throughout the game. Some of the same weapons and fighting moves that Ryu used in the NG Trilogy and the DOA fiighting games are utilized in the new NG. Very cool if your a fan of those series. Of course the graphics are Team Ninja top notch stuff and the music is great in the demo and fit the level. What also impressed me was how powerful the rumble was in the controller during the fighting in this game, very satisfying.

I don't know what the hell you guys are talking about when you say that...... "i wouldnt say its deep.....as there are no story or game play elements on the demo...a lot of slashing the same ninja like enemies over and over"...What? It sounds like you didn't even play the demo. There are six weapons in the demo, three close combat weapons and three projectile weapons. The fighting is way deep, when you bring up the weapons in the menu, it gives a list of all the combo's for that weapon...remindes me of the lists of fighting moves in the Shemue series. The combat is that deep, think of NG as a action/adventure platformer, but the combat is as deep as a fighter.

As for the ignorant comment that all you do is fight Ninja's...LOL...It's only the first level of the game and Ryu is infiltrating a NINJA Fortress and the name of Chapter 1 is "The Ninja Fortress".

As for the no story comment...agian...LOL...I guess you never finished the demo. The part where you find out the the boss charater/Master Ninja is really your friend and you have come to him for some training. Ryu and the Master Ninja talk about Ryu's powerful Dragon Sword and the powerful evil dark Dragon sister Sword and how it is kept in the Hayabusa village. Then Ayane(the female ninja from the DOA series) runs up the mountain path to the Ninja Fortress to inform Ryu that Hayabusa village is on fire and under attack(see the Ninja Gaiden trailers). Thus begins Ryu's adventure. ***** Ya! It's on, baby! Game on!

Don't own a PS2, but played DMC once at a friends house for about five minutes and watched him play it for about 30 minutes. I've heard some people say that NG is kinda like DMC and I can see it. DMC is a great game though, so that's good for NG.

Ahh...that's cool the NG shipped today and comes out tomorrow. What a let down when you go to pick up a game on the day it's released and the cleark says it didn't come in, in the early UPS shipment and to check back in the afternoon.

  • 11 years later...

The thread didn't need to be bumped.

Haha. I was reading replies not noticing the dates and thought that everyone was referring to a new NG that is coming out this year. I was getting excited and then disappointed when I finally saw that it's from 2004. What an old thread.

BTW, I originally bought an XBOX for "Ninja Gaiden". The graphics and gameplay blew me away at the time even though it was a challenge. I never got into anything else on the XBOX.
