Weird label on Gangster alley question

Yup, I posted the other pic but still have no idea why the hell it has that end label. I thought maybe it was a promo copy sent to a magazine for review but I can't confirm this.

I guess you and me are the only people to have this cart

More people might own a copy or River patrol than this cart!

If I had to hazard a guess:

1) Could be a generic end label used if/when they run out of proper end labels for a cart.

2) Could be a later production run to reduce printing costs. (Doubtful since it's all 3-4 color process anyway)

3) Could be an early production run before they had proper end labels.

I have one of these. I found it in the wild many years ago. Both Gangster Alley & Planet Patrol can be found with it. (SA-201 & SA-202) They definitely predate, not post date, the standard labels. In addition, the labels look and feel different then the normal labels. Not as shiny / silver foil reflective. Rather, somewhat "cloudy", duller and thicker. I'll dig mine up tonight & post a pic.

What are the odds that the one with the SpectraVision end label could have been the prototype? Or maybe a promotional cartridge for use in advetisements, much like in certain print ads the end label for a given cart said ATARI on it

Yes, it is possible. They could have been early renditions, first runs, media samples, etc. Mind you, they have EPROMs inside of them instead of roms; but so did many of the standard labeled released Spectravision cartridges as well, so in this case it doesn't mean as much.

The boards and the internals of the cartridge shells on the EPROM carts are also very different (incompatible as I learned the hard way) with those of the those rom carts.
