how do YOU mount your collection?

I got some Cartridge size bags from the internet and I keep each cart seperately bagged. Then I put them into under-the-bed rubbermaid boxes. I can get just a little over 100 games in each box.

It's nice to be able to handle my collection without damaging them. I also bought Sean Kelly's multi-cart so I could play most any of the games without actually having to play them from my real collection.

Here's some pictures.

I also store boxed games on shelves.

Joel D. Park:

That's a cool way to do it. Instead of those, I have the one that's as wide as a bed with wheels. The wheels are great for pulling it out from under the bed, but you don't get a perfect line-up of games because of the indentations for the wheels.

I would never mount my collection. It would hurt.

My Atari collection is all over the house, that is, in places where my girlfriend allows them to be (e.g. *not* in the living room). I mainly collect boxed games, but have no space to show them as I would like to: all on one big wall on thin shelves so there is almost no space between the boxes. That's my dream: my Atari Wall

In stead, my games now reside in the study, the basement and the bedroom, some are on shelves, others are hidden away in boxes and closets... all waiting to be taken out some day!

Cheers,

Marco

My storage resembles Joel's. I use the under bed chests, but have yet to bag my carts. My more valuable games are kept in water/air tight "otter boxes" which my company was gonna throw out. These things are the perfect size to hold 5 2600 carts standing on end and keep that damned "desert dust" outta them...

If only my wife would leave them alone

Maybe when she gets "her" Xbox she'll quit messing with my collection...

This is pretty much how I have mine. It takes up an entire wall in my bedroom - 12 feet long and 3/4 the way up the wall. Looks like a big bookshelf, but upon closer inspection... Boxed 2600 games!

We have a "storage tips" section here on AtariAge, if you're interested in seeing how I have all my games, manuals, overlays, etc. stored. You can look at it here:

AtariAge Storage Tips

Lots of pictures, although I need to take some new ones as my collection has expanded a bit since these were taken. We're always looking for suggestions and better/different storage methods..

Enjoy,

..Al

I goto my local used book/baseball card/ used games shop, I am usually there rummaging thru carts anyway, and I buy a shoebox-sized baseball card storage box. After removing the divider it will hold 34 catrs per box. I like to arrange them by developer and keep them in alphabetical order.

Since the first time I saw how radio stations have huge walls covered with those individual tape holders, I wanted something like that for my Atari cartridges.

Remember the interlocking Atari Modular Cartridge Library that held 14 games that Atari had in the back of many of their catalogs? I wanted to buy tons of those and interlock them into a huge wall sized radio station-like display.

I now have 3 of those Atari Modular Cartridge Libraries, but I won't use them until I get about 14 more.

I wonder if they're still available. If I ever get some money, I would like to get 33 more.

I remember those, check out my wall full of them.

I believe the picture just shows 50 (700 carts).

I've upgraded it to 55 (770 carts).

I believe I need about another 55

to hold my 2600 collection.

I paid $3 each for them brand new in the box, several years ago.

I have a bunch (probably around 15) that I'd consider trading if you are interested. They all are used, but they work (and are in good shape)!

Drop me an email.

I feel your pain.

I close on my new house this Friday.

I've been packing for the last two months!

I can't believe how much stuff I have:

Two bedrooms, a garage, and half of the

living room was stacked with games.

You can ask Alex... He's seen it.

I also have the same dilemma as Marco, no

games allowed in the kitchen, master

bedroom, or dining areas.

As far as the 2600 count. I have the

slightest ideal, I know it's well over

1000.

I'm thinking about converting my new two

door garage into a game room, but I still

don't think that it's large enough.

Maybe I should just sell it all, payoff

the house and just keep the 2600 stuff.

What a hard decision!

Smitty,

I sold off everything but the 2600 stuff over the past three years and I must say, I've never regretted it for a single moment.

It all started when I started selling my (huge) Videopac collection to fund the purchase of my Tempest prototype. I actually enjoyed doing that: replacing a nice collection with an even nicer, single item.

The rest of the systems followed slowly but steadily in the years after that.

I thoroughly enjoy being a specialist collector, even though I'm always very much impressed by people who appear to collect about every system ever made. For me, it's the only way to get my hands on the real rare stuff: money, time and space are all scarce resources. My way of dealing with that is to focus on the one and only King of Consoles: the Atari 2600

Cheers,

Marco
