chad5200
Does anyone have anymore information about this? Does this thing play the real arcade games? Or is it really a Nintendo or something? Interesting Video Game Unit http://www.9thtee.com/funstuff.htm Also, does anyone know how much it is? They don't have a price listed. Eduardo
Hi Chad: The unit you mentioned before it's a NES/famicom clone with 76 built in games from the Power Player series. Where I live you can find Power Player consoles for like $80 but they come with 120 built in games or so. It's only an 8 bit nintendo. Wntermute
Yeah, I was just going to say it's probably a Nintendo.. though they may be bordering on "false advertising" since the Popeye shot is a MAME screenshot (I used to have MAME32 on a PC at work and the screenshot packs had that white bar at the bottom that said what version the game was added)
chad5200
I emailed the guy at that web site. The basic unit has 76 games and is $19.95. The Deluxe version has 128 games and comes with the extra controller, light gun, and power supply is $36.95. It is NTSC. Sounds like a great deal! Eduardo
Well, sounds like a good price but I bet that unit don't have a cart slot to plug in gamecarts and it probably won't broadcast wireless RF signal, that's why it's so cheap.
davidbrit2
There's another Famicom "clone" that you can buy at www.garagesale2u.com. I got one from them, and it's pretty cool. It came with a 2nd controller, and a light gun. It's got 128 games built in, plus a Famicom compatible cartridge slot. It runs on batteries, or the included AC adaptor. The best part was the price: only about $40 US! It should be in the "explosive sellers" category of their web site. I'm not sure how many they have in stock, though. chad5200
I wanted to let everyone know that I received my Super Joystick TV Game today and it is great. It has 168 games built in accessible via a menu when you power it on. It runs on 4 AA bateries and it even has a port to plug in a Nintendo cartridge! It also has what looks like an s-video port in the back (but it is not s-video)... does anyone know what that is for? I bought the Deluxe model which comes with power adaptor, light gun, and second controller. It's a blast. The wife and I were just playing two player Tetris and Pooyan. Albert
quoteYeah, I was just going to say it's probably a Nintendo.. though they may be bordering on "false advertising" since the Popeye shot is a MAME screenshot (I used to have MAME32 on a PC at work and the screenshot packs had that white bar at the bottom that said what version the game was added) Given the aspect ratio of the screenshots, I'm willing to bet they're all from MAME and not quite representative of what you'll be playing on your TV. Still, it's a pretty neat product. Also, what's that gray bar at the bottom of the Popeye screenshot? I don't remember that being a part of Popeye! ..Al
davidbrit2
Hey, Chad, how much was the deluxe package? I just might have to order one of those if they priced them reasonably. Also, was the cartridge slot intended for US cartridges, or Japanese Famicom games? Not that it matters, I'm just the curious sort. :-)
chad5200
The deluxe version is $36.95 and shipping is $4.75 (it's Priority mail) The screenshots they have on their webpage are from Mame, but all those games (and many more) are in this unit (they are the 8-bit Nintendo versions though). You can find it here: http://www.9thtee.com/special.htm The website says that the deluxe only has 76 games, that is not true. It has at least 128 but more likely it has 168. I am not sure if the cart slot is for Ninendo or Japanese Famicon games. I do not have any to test it with. Is there a way to tell by looking? davidbrit2
I'll have to order one of those sometime. The easiest way to tell if it's a US or Japanese slot is by counting the pins on the connector. NES cartridges use a 72 pin slot, and Famicom cartridges use 60 pins. In either case, cartridge converters aren't too hard to come by. chad5200
This unit has a 60 pin slot so I suppose it is for Famicom. Where can one pick up a converter?
davidbrit2
Ebay is probably your best bet to find a converter to play US cartridges in a Famicom system. I doubt that they would end up costing more than $10, or $20 at the most.
Ze_ro
This thing looks pretty neat, and I think I actually saw one of these in a store. One question though: Since the thing is basically an N64 controller, what do all the extra buttons do? Not to mention the Analog stick... And I can't tell if the L/R and Z buttons are on there either.... Are these for changing games or resetting the system or something? Also... what kind of port do the light gun and 2nd controller use? Standard NES I hope... (Okay, I lied. There was more than one question) --Zero
chad5200
The buttons are Reset, Start, Select, two A buttons, and two B buttons. The analog joystick does nothing and is there for show. You select games with the up and down control-pad buttons (you can also page-up and page-down with the A & B buttons). The port for the extra controller or light gun actually looks like an Atari 2600 port.
TheSmirk
I had bought a similar item at a flea market once, it had 70+ games and looked like a N64 controller with A/V jacks...no famicom port, the damn thing went to a "blue screen" once and its been effectively dead since, ugh! The one I had was the NES on a chip -under a blob style. These that you guys are talking about look alot more promising though....methinks I'll need to put the bad experience behind me and order one
