stupid newbie questions

Hi, i've collected loose carts on my own for some time now, acquiring them here and there, often for no more than a quarter. Recently I have started to acquire a few more expensive boxed games and so on. I never realized until just yesterday afternoon there was such a large presence of collectors on the net. I had soem questions I figured could be answered here.

 

1. Is there a "price guide" i guess you could say, out there? Like baseball cards and so on, the price is only relative to the demand, I am sure. But in the same way Beckett magazine and others put a value on sports cards and collectibles, is there a similiar guide for 2600 carts?

 

2. Prototypes ave become a big interest to me. I don't know what the odds of me every purchasing one outside of an online auction would ever be. What availbility is there to some of these prototypes, and besidesebays what are other good sources to look for them?

 

3. What are the odds of new prototypes surfacing? Through 2600 connection ihave sen that a few protos had been discovered through the 90s, what are the odds of copies still floating around out in some strangers garage?

 

4.Whats the best way to store / protect your rare carts and cases?

 

Thats aboutit for now, i'm sure I'll have dozens more later, I'm still quite new to the serious side of vintage collecting...

Look here, there's no such a thing as a dumb question about how to take care of your Atari items, or how to find out a ball park figure for a price on a game. We all need help from time to time with questions and ideas for our collections. So please keep asking.
