That Ebivision version of Pac-Man...

Has anybody ever actually seen it running? Played it? It looks even better than that Pac-Man hack created from Ms. Pac-Man.

Here's the page on this site for it:

Last I read, Ebivision planned to release the game but with the Pac-Man character changed to a goldfish and the ghosts into jellyfish. But since then, nothing. What happened?

Still, even if the game is released and the Pac-Man characters changed, I imagine it wouldn't be too difficult for someone in our community to change the characters back to Pac-Man and the ghosts.

To see a short film of Pacman in action go to Cyberroach.

To get the game Pesco see Hozer Video Games.

BTW how did AtariAge get cartidge scans, box scans, and screen shots of this game? I would love to have this as a ROM to play at least since Ebivision doesn't want to sell a cartridge because of copyrights.

Due to legal reasons, Ebivision decided they shouldn't release it. Instead, they changed the name to Pesco, altered the graphics, and changed the maze. It still looks really good, but I'd still rather have actual Pacman than a knock-off (At least it's not a cheap knock-off, but still).

I imagine someone would be able to alter the graphics back to Pacman, but I'm not sure how easy/hard it would be to change the maze. Also, there might be more to the game... for example, a title screen or between-maze animations or somesuch (I don't know for certain... don't blame me if it turns out it's not there)

Heheheh. We have our spies everywhere! I'll have to bug 'em again one day and see if they'll let the ROM out, I know many people would enjoy it.

So has anybody on this board actually gotten to play this version of Pac-Man? If so, what's it like? How does it compare to Ms. Pac-Man?

Also, how much memory does this version use? It looks to me like it definitely uses more than 2K, so the argument that Todd Frye could have done better might not be the case.

On this one, I sincerely hope that nobody releases the ROM, unless Eric (the programmer) does it himself. Releasing it would no doubt be against Eric's will. He did not want to take the risk of releasing it to the public, because of possible copyright issues. It would be unforgiveable if the released ROM would get him into trouble...

And, while I'm at it, why do people think they have some kind of right to play everything that exists? I've seen the game at CGE. I've seen how great it is. And, because of some very legitimate circumstances, I know I'll never play it. I'm sure I'll be able to live on though

Look at it as a beautiful woman: you long for her, but deep down inside you know you're too much of a geek (I mean, who collects old videogames?!) to ever be with her. But that's just the beauty of it, isn't it - the yearning?

... or am I just a romantic fool that doesn't understand the information age...

I agree (and I'm sure Alex does too) I wouldn't want someone releasing the ROM image without Eric's consent. I think the community in general is okay with this too seeing as none of Ebivision's games have been dumped (that I know of). And if Eric releases it GREAT and if not I think that's okay too. I can live without it.

Yes, that's correct. You won't see any of the Ebivision games here unless they approve it. That's the same reason why you don't see the Supercharger games here. We respect the wishes of the copyright holder if they do not want their games published. That doesn't mean I won't ask them (politely) from time to time if they've changed their mind though.

I do like to post screen shots however, as that at least gives people a taste of the game. BTW, Albert will be at CGE with a cart dumper, so if anyone has any unreleased protos we would love to make a quick dump and at least get a nice screen cap from an emu.
