A question about the 2600 paddles and joysticks

Hello,

I have an Atari 2600 that has a black front on it instead of the woodgrain one (is that called the Darth Vader one?). Anyways, I have two questions, one about the joysticks and another about the paddles.

1. Most 2600 joysticks I see floating around here have the small red buttons on them. However, my Atari joystick has a huge YELLOW button on it and it says "GEMSTICK". Was this the original joystick packed with my 2600?

2. Most 2600 PADDLES I see floating around on eBay have either a tennis or a driving sticker below the knob. Mine doesn't have either of these; It's just black where others have that tennis or driving icon. Was this the original paddle I got?

I know these probably sounds like stupid questions to those who know, but I just wanted to know. Thanks!

Many people refer to them as "Darth Vader" models, so yes.

No, it is a Coleco product, if I remember correctly. I don't know for sure, but it might be the stick that originally came with the Coleco 2600 clone, the Gemini.

The only all-black paddle I've ever seen was a 3rd party controller, so that wouldn't be original to your system, I believe. Could it be that the sticker has just fallen off of it?

I know there used to be a console / controller gallery around back when AtariAge used to be the Atari 2600 Nexus, but I couldn't find it now for some reason. I'll try harder and post a link if I can dig it up.

Try here. It's a link to a description of the Joystick, and the games that use it. If you change the "ControllerID=" part in the URL, you can get similar pages for the paddle, driving controller, etc. Once you get up to controller "7" though, it gets into 5200 stuff. I'm not sure if this stuff is in a menu somewhere (if so, I couldn't find it), but if you go to a game description, it will tell you what controller the game uses, and will give you a link to that controller.

There's not really much information there that you probably don't already know though.
