Lose the gun trick in Berzerk.

I just tried the Loose the Gun trick in Berzerk, on Stella. It's easy to do since all I gotta do is press 2 keys at once.

 

What the heck is up with that?? You can go pick it up and use it again and stuff. Is there anyway in the real game without hacking the controller to loose the gun??

 

It works so well.. I'm suprised if it wasn't intentional. If it wasn't intentional, I assume the bullet that the guy shoots is a seperate sprte and it just carries around with the guy and when you drop it, the game can't find it to shoot it again..

 

It's just totally bizzare, I love it.

You can actually do this same trick in Tron Deadly Discs, by holding up and down at the same time while firing. Your disc will sit there like a mine, and can kill people if they run into it. And you can call it back to yourself by pressing the button. I wouldn't be surprised if more games had tricks like this.

 

I don't think you really "lose" the gun. I think the reason it does this is because the VCS got confused trying to shoot up and down at the same time. The two cancel each other out and the bullet sits there. Of course, in Berzerk you can only have one bullet on screen at once (Notice you can fire faster if you're firing right into a wall), so you can't fire until that bullet is gone.

 

(By the way, try the up+down or left+right trick in Room of Doom for a surprise)
