Ze_ro
I've been reading about the secret area in Mountain King, and I can see it when I take the jump from the top of the mountain, but I can never seem to reach it. Is there a special trick, or somewhere special I should be jumping from? I always seem to hit the bottom of the bottom-right platform, and just fall back down to the mountain. --Zero
Mountain King
The easiest way to get up there that I've found: go to the platform just below the top of the mountain. Position yourself on the edge of the right side then take a very small step to the left. Now I assume you know about the double jump trick. Jump off the right side as far as you can. You'll go all the way down to the small mound. Just as you are about to hit the ground press the joystick in the opposite direction. When you hit the ground you'll do a super jump all the way to the top if the mountain. Keep holding the joystick in that position and you'll do a second superjump from the top of the mountain. When you get to the first tiny platform of the secret area you have to release the joystick at just the right time to land on it. Also you have to have the difficulty switches in the right place. I'm not sure if they should be on A or B, but they do affect the platforms and the ladders in the secret area. Good luck.
Scott Stilphen
Check out the Mountain King page on my Easter egg site for more info, and a link to Tony Roy's awesome MK site (which has detailed instructions on how to reach the secret kingdom). J2383
Can You get there on a Emulator?
Scott Stilphen
I've tried Stella and Z26, but for some reason the secret kingdom isn't accessible with them.
Ze_ro
Aha! I finally got there last night! I lucked out and got it on my first try after powering up the system too! It's not as interesting as I had hoped though... is there anything there other than just weird assortments of platforms and ladders shifting around? Another question: Has anyone managed to win this game? I can get the crown easily enough, but I can never seem to make it back up the mountain without either a bat getting me, or the time limit running out. --Zero
slapdash
I've tried this on Stella for Mac too, and you can make the jump on the secret kingdom, but the layout up there isn't the same, and you can't find a ledge to land on, but rather you bump your head and fall back down. Eckhard Stolberg
Just in case anyone still cares, we have improved the compatibility in z26, and now it should be possible to access the secret kingdom in Mountain King with it. I don't have a cartridge version of this game, so I can't say if the secret kingdom really is the same, but it matches the description on the cheat sites pretty well. Also the cheat sites mention that plugging in a keyboard controller allows you to make certain ladders appear and disappear. The Booster Grip controller uses the same inputs, and since it is active in z26 by default, you can get the same effect with the buttons assigned for Booster Grip. Oh, and one thing that the z26 FAQ forgot to mention, we are now automatically detecting Holey Moley as a keypad game. So everyone who always wondered how to play this game might want to have another try now. Ciao, Eckhard Stolberg p.s. you can get the most recent version of z26 here. Alex
Yes, we care! Thanks for continually making improvements, Eckhard. This is my favorite 2600 emu and it's great to see updates, whatever they may be.
